Comment : A rather stagnated performance from the team. Coming up against a physically strong and quick team BMS struggled to keep possession for any length of time and therefore the defence came under a lot of pressure. The game may have been a little closer had a couple of chances been taken, but ultimately if you concede 4 you are more than likely going to lose anyway.

Year 10 Boys v Westfield (District League) HOME Mr Burnell

Comment : Tuesday saw the year 10 team play their second league game of the season against a good Westfield side. The team started the game very well. They moved the ball quickly and created some excellent chances to score. The team did eventually open the scoring halfway through the first half with a very well taken goal. The team doubled their lead shortly after through a powerful header from a corner. The second half was very similar to the first as the team dominated possession in the opposition half. The only difference was that they were unable to finish off any of the chances that they created. Overall it was another excellent game for the year 10 team.

Comment : The Year 9 Boys produced a really strong overall team performance in a very closely fought game against Queens. Throughout the 70 minutes the boys produced an outstanding defensive performance with the back free of J Gladdy, D Mahmud and B Okeke working really well together and Zak Watson making a number of excellent saves. A Worth was outstanding as the holding midfielder with the team showing some excellent counter attacking football. The game was decided by a D Mahmud strike after L Fearnsides corner and then a fantastic 25 yard strike from G Guainiere. The boys are quickly into their stride in the new season and can look forward with confidence to the games ahead.

Comment : Friday evening saw the Year 8 football team face off a strong Queens side. In the first half, we started strong, winning the first and second ball, battling hard for the ball. Around half way into the first half, Queens put a cross into the box from the right hand side which we failed to deal with and the Queens player slotted home for their first goal of the evening. Following on from this, we remained strong and limited the number of chances Queens were able to create. Soon after the first goal, we managed to fight back with J. Cunningham played an excellent through ball down the right to N. Walters who was able to outpace the defence and with some help from the Queens’ CB, bring us level 1 – 1. After that, we created some more chances with N. Walters caused lots of trouble down the right hand side. With a temporary slip of concentration we failed to deal with another cross and they slotted home a second taking the score to 2 – 1 at half time. A very strong half from us, but unfortunate to be losing at half time. Into the second half and shortly after the kick off, we scored, N. Walters drove down the right again, taking it past two players, crossed the ball in and then scored the rebound, 2 – 2.
Following this spell of dominance we managed to maintain control limiting the number of chances from Queens. During the second half, the game went to 3 – 3 with N. Walters completed his hattrick. Queens then managed to get a foothold in the game and started to create some more chances as we battled to win the game. J. Hiett, as last year, saved us a number of times from falling behind with a number of sound saves in goal. Unfortunately, we could only hold off for so long and eventually the score read 5 – 3 to Queens. Whilst H. McManus was able to get us another goal back shortly before the end of the game, a final blow from Queens in the last 2 minutes sent us towards our first defeat of the season. The game finished 6 – 4, whilst Queens were triumphant this evening, the year 8 football team did not stop fighting till the end, putting themselves on the line to fight back for a win. An extremely exciting game from start to finish with two good footballing sides. Outstanding attitude from all involved and excellent performance. Onto the next game.

Year 7A Boys v Queens B (Friendly) AWAY Mr Burnell

Comment : Friday saw the year 7A team play their first game of the season against a strong Queens side. The team started the game really brightly through some excellent link up play and passing. This resulted in them testing the Queens keeper early on. However, Queens grew into the game themselves and began to create chances to open the scoring. Halfway through the first half they took the lead through a well worked team goal. Unfortunately, they added two more goals before half time. The second half was almost a completely different game. The team really grew into the contest and started to play the football that they played early in the first half, which allowed them to create some excellent chances to score. We did pull a goal back in the second half through a well taken penalty but unfortunately ended up on the losing side. There were many positives to take from the game and into their next fixture, which I am sure they will do.

Year 7B Boys v Queens C (Friendly) AWAY Mr James

Comment : Friday night football saw the year 7 B team experience their first away day at Queens. The year 7’s settled into the game quite nicely after Queens applying early pressure early doors, credit goes to C. Smith, who came up with some vital saves keeping the score at 0-0. Once the boys found their rhythm we started to dominate and which saw us score but it got disallowed for offside. Shortly after this J. Lewis successfully won the penalty but was unable to convert from the spot after the Queens goalkeeper made a terrific save low down to his right hand side. However this didn’t impact the teams performance as we went 1-0 up through D. Snowden in the 20 minute. After this we continued to apply pressure onto Queens and 3 minutes later going 2-0 up and once again D. Snowden being on the scoresheet yet again. At this point a change in formation was applied as we brought on 2 attacking wingers in E. Platt and K. Mistry who provided the width in the team and we dominated the wide areas of the pitch and created more chances. Throughout this spell we continued to knock on the door of the Queen’s defence but were unable to capitalise on the chances because of the Queen’s goalkeeper denying us with some outstanding saves. Finally in the 27 minute K. Mistry made us go 3-0 up, which took us in a deserved lead at half time.
At the start of the second half Bushey Meads started off slowly with Queens being on the front foot, however good defensive play kept us in the game especially from F. Gee was defensively aware of his position and did a great job throughout the game. Unfortunately due to the amount of pressure being applied on the defence, Queens eventually scored 2 quick goals in a space of 2 minutes, which made the game more tense. We did have a few chances but were unable to capitalise and therefore found ourselves conceding another goal making the game 3-3 on the 52 minute mark. Finally the final 5 minutes of the match saw Queens came close hitting the post from the edge of the box, making it a nail biting ending but the boys held on. Finally the final whistle went and ultimately the game was a tale of two halves, but it was a great experience for everyone involved and we look forward to building on this performance and take it into our next game.

Comment :After a really promising defensive performance in the first half a late goal saw the boys go into the break a goal down. The boys continued to play some good football but unfortunately a strong Futures team ran out deserved winners with a strong second half showing.

Comment: Monday saw the year 7A team play their first league fixture of the year against Futures Academy. The team started really well and were creating some excellent chances to score. They converted one of their many chances half way through the first half to make it 1-0. The team then scored two more excellent goals to go into half time 3-0 to the good. The second half was very similar to the first as the team dominated possession in the opposition half. A number of chances were again created because of this and 4 more very good goals were scored in the half. Overall a very dominant display by the team and a good way to start their league season.

Year 7 Girls v Futures Academy Watford

Comment: What a great start to competitive netball for the year 7 squad. In a close game the girls really began to jel as a team as the game progressed. Being a goal down after the first quarter the girls stepped up their play after the break with some fine passing through the centre court, great work in the shooting circle and a solid defensive display. Learning as the game went on both teams showed real potential for the future and it was lovely to see their competitive instincts starting to develop. With lots of girls having been in attendance at training in recent weeks the team will be very transient in the early stages giving lots of students the opportunity to play. Well done to all involved.

Year 9 Girls v Croxley Danes (District League) Away Mrs Cooper

Comment : In a very exciting game the BMS team worked really hard to try and reduce an early deficit. Against a very strong Croxley team they were on the back foot after the first quarter but all players improved their games as time went on. With M.Bazile and Z.O’Brart kept busy in the defensive circle it was up to the centre court players to try to bring the ball down court, in what was at times a fast and frenetic game. Shooters S.Doran and V.Hill worked hard to create and convert chances but again were up against a very strong defence. The girls never gave up and through hard work and determination drew the last quarter demonstrating their great work ethic and team spirit. Well done.

Comment : A first outing for the year 10 netballers saw them up against a determined and very loud Croxley team. The BMS team took an early lead as a result of some great attacking play from M.Cozens and E.Hauff in the shooting circle and E.Rogers and J Verrey in the centre court. This fired up their opposition who came out fast in the second quarter to reduce the deficit making things all square at half time. The second half followed in much the same vein with both teams trading goals despite some very impressive defending from N.Donald (earning her praise from the opposition staff) P.Pryra and S.Mullings. In the final quarter I.Payne and E.Hauff worked well together to ensure the goals kept coming and the draw was well earned. A great start to the season. Well done all.

The PE and Health Faculty also have their own Twitter account which includes regular updates on fixtures, match reports and details of forthcoming events.

PE kit
It is essential that students have the full correct PE kit for all lessons. This includes shinpads and black /yellow socks when participating in football lessons and also a pair of white sports socks for all other activities. Students will be reminded when activities change. Students not bringing the correct kit will instantly receive consequence points.
Girls should be wearing plain black shorts which are longer than the length of their PE shirt or hoody. Leggings should be black sports leggings and not see through. Black tracksuit bottoms are also permitted.

ALL jewellery should be removed prior to the start of the lesson, including earrings, and hair should be tied up.
