On Wednesday 17th January a group session was held for the school’s young carers.
The session enabled the pupils to meet each other and to get to know other pupils in the school with additional caring responsibilities at home.
Miss Rayment and Mrs Davies spoke to the pupils about the support offered in school for them.
The session started with a quiz about young carers in schools and meant the groups learnt about what it means to be a young carer. Pupils then had the opportunity to anonymously share things they struggle with at home and shared strategies they use to relax when they feel overwhelmed. By sharing strategies with each other, the pupils were able to pick up on new ideas of ways to relax. Ideas included listening to music, walking the dog and cycling.
In order to break the ice and to get to know each other, the pupils paired up and were challenged to build the highest tower possible using just spaghetti and Marshmallows! This required teamwork and good communication.
Group sessions for young carers will be becoming a regular occurrence and if you believe your child is a young carer please email Miss Rayment at [email protected] so that support can be offered.
