Superb Study Saturday 1

It was so encouraging and really impressive to see over 70 Year 11 and Year 13 students attend the first Study Saturday of the year last weekend and experience the focus and effort in the rooms across the Learning Resource Centre (LRC).

LRC4 was used as a purposeful group-working room: students were discussing their learning and revising using their notes made on the whiteboard, others were completing past paper questions and marking them together, advising each other about any gaps in their learning and exam technique.
Other students in LRC1’s Silent Study Room or the quiet space in LRC2 were revising using many of the powerful online revision websites accessed through the Chromebooks made available to them, were making revision notes on revision cards or mind maps, or were printing off the latest past papers to test their knowledge in a typical examination situation.
Some of the SIxth Form students were employing one of the most powerful strategies to revise – that of teaching others, which serves to retain 95% of the subject matter you are covering.
The free squash and biscuits were enjoyed by everyone and helped to give that extra boost throughout the 4 hour session. Most students left at the end stating that they were really glad they had come and would definitely come again; that sense of getting up with a purpose in mind really helped them achieve a lot throughout the 4 hour Study Saturday.
You don’t have to come for the full 4 hours and can attend for as long or as short a time as you want between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm. All you need to do is sign in on arrival in the book on the teacher’s desk and sign out when you leave, making sure you leave the school site promptly.
