Our Year 7 and 8 French students traded the classroom for the bakery recently on a brilliant trip to Bread Ahead, a bakery school located in Wembley. The goal for the day was to get a real hands-on taste of French culture by learning how to make traditional bread.
The students did a fantastic job tackling two classic recipes: a traditional crispy baguette and a beautifully shaped fougasse (a patterned flatbread from the south of France). They threw themselves into the whole process, from measuring out ingredients to kneading and shaping the dough like pros.
Aside from picking up some great baking skills, it was a lovely way for the group to experience French culture in a practical, real-world setting.
A huge thank you to the team at Bread Ahead for hosting us, and well done to all the students for being such fantastic ambassadors for the school. Bon appétit!
