Year 12 Work Shadowing Week

Last week the whole of year 12 had the opportunity to gain experience within the workplace by completing a week of work experience.

Throughout Bushey Meads School, Work Related Learning is an essential part of the curriculum, giving students the grounding in the skills required in today’s world of work. We are going through challenging times globally and our students need to be aware of the value of these skills, especially when self-marketing themselves in any application for university or work-based learning.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the change of routine and worked in a wide range of different industries including hospitality, retail, education, banking, local council, legal sector, IT, music, beauty, – just to name a few.

Comments from one of students who participated in a placement within the hospitality sector.

“Work experience is going so well. We just finished our first week of training. It’s been so much fun. We met a bunch of great people who we shared the first week with. We did an industry visit to the Plaza Waterloo hotel London and some mock interviews with people who were big in the industry. Unfortunately we did not meet Raymond Blanc but we did find out that if we wanted to we could take an apprenticeship with a catering company called Sodexo where we would work with him. We will all be splitting off to separate hotels and companies from Monday to Friday next week. I was assigned to The Milestone hotel and residences in Kensington which should be a nice experience.”

Ben went to a music placement with Electric Umbrella and he absolutely loved it!

A big well done to all of our students who had to push themselves out of their comfort zones and take on new opportunities and challenges.
