George’s Legacy Lives On

Fans of Bushey Meads School’s most famous pupil George Michael
continue to want to visit BMS from around the world to see where he
struck up that friendship with local boy Andrew Ridgeley and, through
their love of music, subsequently started their first band The
Executives and later the musical pop duo Wham!

Last week a small group visited after school on Friday from London and
Southern Italy. They spoke to staff, walked around the school site,
posed for photographs under the Heritage Blue Plaque and stood in the
Main Hall, George’s old form room and the Sixth Form Centre to get a
feel for what life would have been like for the singing sensation
during his teenage years at school.

The visitors also spoke to a number of current students and were very
impressed with how articulate and polite they were. They commented
about their respectful behaviour and warm welcome they were given and
were very grateful for the opportunity to visit the school.

Their comments in the Visitors’ Book captured their genuine gratitude.
