What a brilliant Enrichment Day we had last Wednesday in the Computer Science department!

First up was Joshua, one of our own Year 10 Computer Science students, who ran a fantastic workshop teaching students how to make their own games in Scratch. He did a superb job leading the session, and every single student left having built their own game. It was brilliant to see a student stepping up like this, confident, clear, and clearly a natural at explaining things. The whole room was buzzing, and you could see just how much everyone enjoyed themselves.

Simultaneously, our new Computer Science teacher, Miss Mlambo, ran an equally outstanding session on coding Micro:bits. Students were completely hooked from start to finish, thoroughly enjoying getting stuck into some hands-on coding.

It’s easy to underestimate just how valuable days like this are. Coding and digital skills aren’t just useful, they’re becoming essential for so many paths our students might take in the future. But beyond the technical side, sessions like these give students something just as important: confidence, curiosity, and a real sense that they can create things themselves. For some, this might just be the spark that leads to a genuine passion, or even a future career.
