As we approached the end of last term, our Year 9 students explored the power of silent debate, a strategy that encourages thoughtful, written discussion without spoken interruption. Students responded to key statements by writing their ideas on paper and engaging directly with each other’s viewpoints through comments and questions.
The level of engagement was exceptional. Students found their voice, contributing insightful and considered responses. The classroom atmosphere was focused and reflective, with students building on each other’s ideas in a meaningful way.
It was a fantastic way to end the term by promoting critical thinking, respectful dialogue and confidence in expressing ideas.
