Life Changing Adventures!

Life Changing Adventures!
At school we work hard both in and out of the classroom to provide great opportunities to all our students.

Our extra-curricular activities provided each and every week are an important part of our wider school curriculum. As parents and carers do encourage your children to attend at least one club each and every week. It is a great way to make new friends and try out different things.

In addition to our regular clubs and activities staff at the school also arrange a whole array of trips and visits throughout the year – sometimes giving up their free time and holidays to do this with no extra pay. We are extremely grateful that our staff are willing to do this and again, as parents and carers, do make the most of these opportunities on offer.

Sometimes these opportunities are linked to experience-type qualifications and last Friday Mrs Wilson, our SEND Teacher, and LRC and D of E Coordinator spoke to staff about the D of E or Duke of Edinburgh scheme that we run at Bushey Meads School. Over 30 students are already involved in this amazing opportunity and are well on the way to completing their volunteering tasks and are now looking forward to completing their practice and assessed expeditions in June and July of this year – hoping to successfully complete their prestigious Bronze Award in the near future

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has now been running for 70 years and provides an opportunity for young people to demonstrate what they can do. Time and time again, the scheme has seen that, when young people are given the chance to prove to themselves what they’re capable of, there’s no limit to what they can achieve. The scheme serves to celebrate and champion every young person and provide a safe environment of support and challenge that grows as they do.

Whatever their ability, interest or background, D of E offers young people the chance to strive for achievement, overcome obstacles, and set their minds to a personal challenge. We all know that, when you prove to yourself that you’re ready for anything, nothing can hold you back. The Founder HRH Prince Philip once said: “There is more in you than you might think.” and DofE helps you realise that.

As parents and carers, do talk to your children about D of E and all the other opportunities on offer at Bushey Meads School and encourage them to get involved.
