Football reports
Year 9 v Immanuel (District League) HOME Mr Burnell
Date : Tuesday 14th September 2021
Result : Won 8-1
Scorers : C. Tegzes, A. Gates, I. Harry-Brown, M. McManus.
Squad : K. Tinriover, C. Tegzes, A. Gates, G. Eldridge, O. Spencer, I. Harry-Brown, N. Morka, A. Fish, D. Ansa-Otu, S. Chadwick, M. McManus, H. Cooper, K. Ford, J. Harris, K. Gurney.
Commended performances : C. Tegzes, A. Gates, I. Harry-Brown, M. McManus, G. Eldridge, S. Chadwick, K. Tinriover.
Comment : Tuesday saw the year 9 boys play their first competitive 11-a-side game for the school in the district league against Immanuel. The game started very well with the boys playing some excellent football, which led to plenty of chances being created. A number of these chances were also converted, resulting in the team taking a 6-0 lead into half time. Immanuel started the second half strong, however the team extended their lead with a couple of excellent finishes. Immanuel got a goal back late on but the team defended really well to restrict them to only a couple of chances. It was a great start to the year, however still plenty to work on.
Year 8 v Futures Academy (County Cup) AWAY Mr Cartledge
Date : Friday 17th September 2021
Result : Lost 8-2
Scorers : G Guainiere, E Ansu Otu
Squad : J Gladdy, L Johnson, G Guainiere, J Allan, L Fearnside, B Okeke, J Coady, S Mowle, E Ansu Otu, Z Bertie, L Amin, K Fung, O Alao, S Juracek
Commended performances : S Mowle, J Gladdy, G Guainiere
Comment : In the boys first competitive 11-a-side match for the school the boys were disappointed to be defeated by a physical Futures Academy team. After taking an early lead some defensive errors cost the boys and saw them chasing the game in the second half. Despite losing the boys showed some promising signs of improved passing and moving and gives them something to build on in the future.
Year 7 v Grange Academy (District League) AWAY Mr Harris
Date : Tuesday 21st September 2021
Result : Lost 7 – 3
Scorers : N. Walters (2) S. Ardeleanu (1)
Squad : J Hiett, L Browne, Z O’Hara, R Cooper, B Neulander, S Ardeleanu, G Amoako-Wiredu, K Gibson, H Wills, H McManus, H Neal, N Walters, J Cunningham
Commended performances : J. Hiett, L. Browne
Comment : On Tuesday, the year 7 boys had their first opportunity to represent the school at a football match vs Grange Academy. The team took an early lead in a fast paced, thrilling first half of football. Soon after we scored, the team conceded a penalty which was saved excellently by J. Heitt. Throughout the first half we created a number of chances whilst defending valiantly against some high pressing from Grange Academy. The first half finished with Grange Academy having a narrow lead. In the second half we started well, pressing the opposition and trying to create chances of our own. Later in the second half we started to tire and ended up chasing the game at times. In the end conceding three more goals, ultimately losing the game 7 – 3. Despite the loss, the first game showed some really encouraging signs and has plenty of areas where we can build on. All the boys represented the school excellently and should be encouraged from that performance and be excited to build upon that performance in the future.
Year 8 v Grange Academy (District League) HOME Mr Cartledge
Date : Tuesday 21st September 2021
Result : Won 7-3
Scorers : J Allan 3., Z Bertie 2, D Mahmud, G Guainiere
Squad : J Gladdy, Z Watson, L Johnson, G Guainiere, J Allan, B Okeke, J Coady, S Mowle, Z Bertie, O Alao, D Mahmud, A Worth, L Amin, K Fung
Commended performances : Whole team !
Comment : The boys produced a much improved performance playing some excellent possession football particularly in the first half. The boys started really well and opened the scoring with a fantastic team goal finished off by J Allan after 30 seconds. For the next 20 minutes the boys dominated the game scoring 4 more goals with the pick of those a fine 30 yard free kick from D Mahmud. A spirited effort by the Grange team saw a tighter second half but the boys fully deserved their first win of the season.
Year 10 v St Clement Danes (District League) AWAY Mr Symeou
Date : Tuesday 21st September 2021
Result : 3-3 draw
Scorers : K. Larkin, D. Barbakadze
Squad : C. Hughes, N. Mitchell, C Sacikaran, A. Clarke, A. Sacikaran, J. Wheeler, K. Larkin, D. Barbakadze, C. Marriot, N. Bryan, F. Carpenter, H. Wafi, B. Regan.
Commended performances : D. Barbakadze, K. Larkin, A. Clarke, C. Sacikaran
Comment : A great game of football with lots of quality on show. The boys worked hard earned a well deserved 3-3 draw. After going a goal behind the boys showed great character eventually taking the lead until late in the second half when SCD equalised. I was particularly impressed with the way the boys played out from the defence. D. Barbakadze drove the team forward creating many opportunities and scoring 2 goals. C. Sacikaran played his first full match for the team and contributed with a great defensive performance.
