Governors Day 2018

On Tuesday of this week we held our now annual Governors’ Day and many of our hardworking governors joined us to take part in a variety of activities designed to support the ongoing school improvement agenda. The day also helped to promote the excellent work of our Governing Body with students and staff and enabled our governors to gain a real insight into the day to day work that goes on at our superb school. The busy day started with the governors being welcomed in the School Restaurant by the Student Learning Consultants and participating in some activities to help them get to know the latest developments at the school over breakfast.

Our Chair of Governors Di Hoeksma and Vice Chair of Governors Richard Abrahams led an inspirational Key Stage 4 Assembly and shared some thoughts about the Theme of the Week ‘Consideration.’ Mr Abrahams highlighted 10 ‘Commandments’ which were shared with all the students to encourage them to be even more considerate both in and out of school. After the assembly the Governors were then taken on a tour of the school by students – visiting all classrooms and teaching areas. The students answered any questions that the Governors had about the school and the learning that was taking place.

The well attended and purposeful Joint Student Parliament and Governors Meeting.

During lesson 4 a joint Governors/Student Parliament Meeting was held in the Main Hall to discuss ways in which the school could be further improved as a learning community, particularly in relation to strengthening our Mind to Be Kind Culture and how we can promote and celebrate all aspects of this key agenda and element of our Character Development Coaching programme across all year groups in the school. The meeting which was led by our Head Boy Rikhil and Head Prefect Leon Hirsh was a very productive meeting that will undoubtedly help to shape and promote this important agenda more widely across our learning community. After lunch our Governors joined a selection of students in the Main Hall and were treated to some superb Dance, Drama and Music performances by talented students in Years 7 – 13. It was a truly fitting end to an amazing day.  I would like to thank all the hard working staff and students who made our Governors Day 2018 so successful. All the Governors I spoke to were hugely impressed and appreciative of the superb work taking place and were very grateful for wonderful welcome given to the in each and every faculty area in the school.

One of our Governors emailed us immediately after the event to share her thanks and appreciation to all the staff and students for making the day so successful.

“Thank you so much to all the staff and children that made us feel so welcome on yet another successful Governors Day. I met with some fantastic children in the Science department and really enjoyed spending time with the Head of Faculty Mr O’Brien. I’ve enclosed a few photos from the children’s books and displays and I’m already looking forward to next year’s visit! Do enjoy the rest of the term!”Governors
