Year 10 Go to work on an egg

“Go to work on an egg” was an advertising slogan used by the United Kingdom’s Egg Marketing Board during the 1950s and 1960s

I have no idea why we needed to advertise eggs, they are the most versatile, nutritious and cheapest food we eat!

I have set my Year 10 Food Preparation and nutrition students weekly egg tasks. They have had to find out about the food provenance of our eggs and what environmental and welfare issues are attached to eggs. They have then had to investigate the nutritional benefits and physical make up of an egg. Future tasks will be looking at food safety aspects and understanding what food science happens when we whisk and start to cook an egg.

In the meantime I have been setting some cooking tasks with some eggcellent results! I couldn’t set a task without having a go myself so I made a batch of meringue kisses with strawberry cream and chocolate

Harry S made Ham, Cheese, Mushroom, Tomato and Onion Quiche

Ella Wilson made spinach and pepper egg muffins

Rebecca made a strawberry pavlova with homemade strawberry coulis

Ife made French toast and cloudy eggs on toast

Sophie made a beautifully presented boiled egg on toast

Emma Smith made scrambled egg with spinach and tomato

Charlie R made a Spanish omelette

Ross L made chocolate swiss roll

Well done everyone! I can’t wait to see you very soon!
