Spoken Language Endorsement Planning!

Year 11 students are putting the final touches on their speeches as they prepare to deliver their compulsory AQA GCSE English Language Spoken Language Endorsement during the upcoming Enrichment Day on Thursday 5th November.

The entire year group presents a structured presentation on a topic of their choice. The assessment tests public speaking, formal presentation techniques and the ability to respond to audience questions. This forms a key mandatory component of the AQA English Language qualification, resulting in a formal Pass, Merit, or Distinction endorsement (see criteria).

Throughout the day on Thursday 5th November each student will deliver a formal speech lasting between five and ten minutes, followed by a live question and answer session where peers and assessing teachers will probe their research and reasoning.

How Year 11 Students Can Prepare:

Between now and the Enrichment Day, students in Year 11 preparing for their endorsement should focus on the following areas:

  • Fine-tune your speech: Review your script. Write your speech out on revision/presentation cards to ensure your arguments are concise.

  • Practice, practice, practice: Rehearse aloud multiple times in front of friends, family or a mirror to build familiarity and confidence.

  • Maintain eye contact: Lift your eyes from your notes regularly to engage your audience directly, rather than reading word-for-word.

  • Control your body language: Stand tall, avoid fidgeting and use natural hand gestures to underline key arguments.

The English Faculty wishes all Year 11 speakers the best of luck as they fine-tune their speeches this upcoming month.
