English Excellence: Year 13 Leads the Way...

Our Year 12 English Language and Literature students recently benefited from an engaging lesson led by Larry, a Year 13 student, who shared his knowledge and understanding of Shakespeare’s Othello.

The session focused on Act 1, Scene 1, exploring how Shakespeare introduces key characters, establishes conflict and uses language to reveal Iago’s manipulative nature. Through close analysis of the dialogue, students examined how Shakespeare presents themes of deception, prejudice and power from the very beginning of the play.

The lesson provided a fantastic opportunity for Year 12 students to develop their analytical skills, deepen their understanding of Shakespeare’s methods and learn from someone who has recently studied the text at A Level. It also demonstrated the value of collaboration across year groups, with students taking an active role in supporting one another’s learning.

Students also had the opportunity to take part in a Q and A session, asking questions about the transition from GCSE to A Level English Language and Literature. This provided a valuable opportunity to hear first-hand advice from Larry who has recently experienced the challenges of studying English Language and Literature at A Level.

A huge well done to Larry for demonstrating such confidence and leadership, plus thank you to the Year 12 students for their enthusiastic participation!
