In addition to the Carnegie award, the Kate Greenaway medal is awarded for an outstanding book in terms of illustration for children and young people. In library studies we often watch authors talking about the inspiration for their books, but seldom think about the impact of the illustrations or how authors and illustrators have to collaborate, especially on picture books. As part of the shadowing experience, a special virtual interview with author/illustrators was organised for some of our lucky students:

Luxman Aravindan, Yr7 said:

“On Thursday, people from the Carnegie shadowing group and I had the chance to watch and ask questions of illustrators of some of the books that were up for the award. It was a pleasure to watch the illustrators talking about their books and what it took for them to become an illustrator. Overall, the event was very fun and fascinating. I am delighted to have the pleasure to be a part of it.”
