Comment : Thursday saw the year 10 team play another league fixture against Futures Academy. The team started well and took the lead very early on in the game with an excellent through ball and finish. However, the lead was soon lost as Futures scored to level the game. The team failed to react to the goal that they had conceded and quickly found themselves 3-1 down. It was an uphill task to get back into the game but they pulled a goal back just before halftime to make it 3-2. The second half was an excellent team performance. The team started on the front foot and equalised early on. Unlike the first half they did not lose complacency and continued to dominate the game all over the field. There was some excellent football being played, which resulted in a large amount of chances being created. This was another excellent game for the year 10 team who showed real character to come back and win the game.

Year 10 Boys v John Henry Newman (County Cup) HOME  Mr Burnell

Date : Friday 7th October 2022

Result : Won 3-2.

Scorers : A. Gates, C. Tegzes, I. Harry Brown.

Squad : K. Tinriover, C. Tegzes ,A. Gates, G. Eldridge, I. Harry Brown, N. Morka, D. Ansu Otu, M. McManus, F.Cross, K. Ford, S. Millberry, A. Bracewell, J. Harris.

Commended performances : C. Tegzes ,A. Gates, G. Eldridge, F.Cross, S. Millberry.

Comment : Friday saw the year 10 team play their County Cup first round game against a strong John Henry Newman  side. The game started very evenly with both sides failing to create many clear cut chances to score. However, the team took the lead mid way through the first half with an outstanding freekick that found the top corner. They took a 1-0 lead into the break. The second half started slowly as the side could not keep hold of possession. This resulted in John Henry Newman taking a 2-1 lead through two excellent set pieces of their own. The team again had to show character to get back into the game. With the final few minutes of the game remaining they equalised. This led to a nervy finish for both sides. With only a couple of minutes left the team managed to score a winner through a very well taken finish. They saw the rest of the game through and finished on the winning side. Another excellent performance and they are through to the second round.

Squad: J. Lewis, L. Khan, F. Blowers, A. Chaudhry, L. Douglas-Grant, R. Doran, B. Spencer, J. Wright, R. Hodgson, F. Hoy, K. Walker, K. Johnson.

Commended performances : R. Doran, R. Hodgson, A. Chaudhry, F. Hoy, B. Spencer, K. Johnson.

Comment : Tuesday saw the year 7A team play their second game of the season against a strong Westfield side. The game started very evenly as both teams played some nice football and created a few chances to open the scoring. However, midway through the half our pressure paid off as the team opened the scoring to make it 1-0. Westfield scored two goals very quickly after to make it 2-1 at half time. In the second half the team played some excellent football and scored a very good long range goal to make it 2-2. This is how the game finished after a nervy end for both teams. A strong performance again from the year 7A team.

Year 9 Boys v Westfield  (District League) AWAY  Mr Cartledge

L Fearnside, G Guainiere, S Mowle, Z Bertie, E Ansu Otu, K Fung, O Alao, J Coady, L Johnson

Commended performances : S Mowle, D Mahmud, A Worth, G Guainiere

Comment : The boys produced an excellent team performance to run out convincing winners. The team played some excellent passing football and controlled the game from start to finish. Some excellent work from the defensive trio set the base for the win and this was complemented by some very good team goals.

Year 7B Boys v Grange Academy  (Friendly) AWAY  Mr James

Date : Wednesday 12th October 2022

Result : Won 6-0

Scorers : K.Mistry (X3), D.Snowden (X2), M. O’Dea

Squad : C.Smith, K. Goldner, F. Gee, F. Blowers, S. Johnson, P. Soteriou, K. Mistry, E. Ebinca, H. Trueman, M. Fry, M. O’Dea, D. Snowden

Commended performances : Whole team

Comment : Bushey Meads, played away at Grange Academy, which they thrived under. After a cagey first 15 minutes, Bushey found their rhythm and took 2 chances through K. Mistry and 2 minutes before halftime Bushey scored a 3rd goal through D. Snowden, making us go into half time 3-0 up. Bushey continued to dominate the game scoring 2 more quick goals from M. O’Dea and K. Mistry who found the net for his hat trick. This then later followed up from D. Snowden scored the 6th and final goal from the penalty spot. As we entered the last 10 minutes of the game the Grange defence kept our attack at bay with 2 good saves from their goalkeeper and a few blocks from their defenders. Finally the final whistle went with Bushey Meads winning 6-0 and we look to build on this for our future matches.

Senior Boys v Richard Hale  (County Cup) AWAY  Mr Cartledge

Date : Wednesday 12th October 2022

Result : Lost 7-0

Scorers

Squad : S Booth (Capt) (13), C Lynch (13), A Kothary (GK) (13), T Bates (13), E Anthony (13), M Keough (13), D Tegzes (12), A Ali (12), B Winslett (GK), F Carpenter (11) A Sacikarah (11), J Sims (11)

Commended performances : S Booth

Comment : The Senior Boys team were desperately unlucky to be drawn against last year’s Under 18 County Champions and U16 County Runners-Up in the 1st round of this year’s competition. The boys battled really hard and at times defended really well but were eventually well beaten by a very good team.

NETBALL

Year 7 Girls v St.Michaels  (District League)    Home   Mrs Cooper

Date : Wednesday 12th October 2022

Result : Lost 2-8

Squad : M.Huryta, J.Isles, A.Permeti, E.Yeboah, Y.Khan, S.Verrey, A.Lankshear, B.Harries

Commended performances : A.Permeti (voted for by opposition and commended by the St.Michaels teacher)

Comment: This was a tough game against a well organised St.Michael’s team.

With lots of possession in the first quarter BMS found it difficult to break down the strong SM defence and some excellent shooting from the opposition saw them take a 2 goal lead into the second quarter. Although improving in all areas of the court BMS were not able to capitalise and SM continued to outscore in each quarter. Having identified some areas to focus on in training this was a good learning game for the BMS girls who will definitely build on this performance.  Good work girls.

Year 8 Girls v St.Michaels  (District League)    Home   Mrs Cooper

Date : Wednesday 12th October 2022

Result : Lost 5-7

Squad : A-R Hemmings. A Doherty, N Olubodun, L Macdonald, E Mullings, H Sookhoo, A Gibson, R Chaudasma

Commended performances : N.Olubodun (voted for by opposition) A.Doherty (commended by opposition teacher)

Comment: Definitely a game the BMS team grew into. Trailing by 3 goals after the first quarter and with a nasty injury to shooter A.Hemmings a player reshuffle was required. This settled the team and they worked really hard to keep the deficit at 3 goals going into the HT whistle.  In the second half the 3rd quarter remained close with each team matching their opponents scoring but it was the final quarter that saw the girls play some of their best netball and reduce the deficit outscoring their opponents.  A hard fought battle with a great last quarter from the BMS team.

Year 9 Girls v St.Michaels   (District League)   Away  Mrs Cartledge

Date : Wednesday 12th October 2022

Result : Won 16-12

Squad : V.Hill, S.Doran, E.Bird, L.Winslett, L.Qarib, M.Bazile, Z.O’Brart, I.Palan

Commended performances : L Winslett (voted by opposition)

Comment: This was a great game and well fought in every quarter. The girls grew in confidence and linked some accurate and well timed passes to our shooters. The shooters were excellent and we were in front by at least 4 goals in every quarter. Defensively we were also strong with brilliant interceptions by all. The girls showed stamina and strength of character throughout the match and were rewarded with a win. A lovely group of girls and a pleasure to take to fixtures.

Year 10 Girls v St.Michaels   (District League)   Away  Mrs Cartledge

Date : Wednesday 12th October 2022

Result : Lost 18-9

Squad : L.Wheaton, M.Cousins, E.Hauff, L.Krikler, E.Rogers, S.Mullings, N.Donald, P.Pryra

Commended performances : S Mullings (voted by opposition)

Comment: This was a tough game for the year 10’s but one that was fought with determination and hard work. St Michaels opposition were strong and tall which in the first quarter we began to adapt to. As a result, in the second quarter both teams scored 2 goals each. Defensively we were strong and managed to intercept the ball on many occasions and at times there was lovely attacking play down court. This was a game in which we competed well and with more consistency could have come closer to a win. It was a great game to watch with all our players demonstrating sportsmanship and resilience. Fab work year 10.
