Bushey Meads Alumni Book Launch

It was an absolute privilege to attend, along with Mrs Davies and Mrs Hedges, the Covent Garden book launch of alumna student Rebecca Sullivan. Rebecca is a disability advocate who herself lives with cerebral palsy

Rebecca attended Bushey Meads for her entire secondary education, leaving sixth form in 2012 after gaining her A’ levels to undertake a degree in Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire.

Rebecca, always an avid reader, immersed herself in school life and was a member of the school boccia team and a regular participant in the annual Stoke Mandeville National Disabled Games.

Rebecca’s debut book ‘Finding Yourself Within Disability: How To Look After Your Disabled Self’ offers practical guidance and personal advice on how disabled persons can begin to navigate the world. It shares Rebecca’s own experiences in learning to accept her own disability and spotlights some of the challenges she has faced. Although aimed as a guidance resource for the disabled community, it’s a very thought-provoking read for everyone.

A copy of the book is available in the school library or can be purchased from all major book stores and online retailers. It comes highly recommended and not just because of Rebecca’s encouragement to pause for tea-and-biscuit breaks!

Bushey Meads are very proud to have such a fantastic young author as part of our school alumni community and look forward to reading her second publication.
