From GAP Tasks to Thorpe Park Thrills!
Last Friday, 49 of our students swapped the classroom for roller coasters, as they headed to Thorpe Park for a very special reward, it was a full day out, earned entirely through their own hard work.
Every student on the coach had completed all 20 of their GAP tasks over the summer holiday, and in addition to the trip, each of them also received R5/R6 rewards on Arbor in recognition of their outstanding commitment.
We arrived at Thorpe Park around twenty minutes before the rides opened, which meant students could make the very most of the day ahead. There was a real buzz of excitement as the gates opened, and students wasted no time getting started, moving from ride to ride from the moment the park came to life.
For many, the big thrill rides were the highlight. Hyperia, Stealth and Colossus, and the screams and laughter said it all. There was plenty for everyone to enjoy too, with gentler attractions such as the High Striker, Mr Monkey’s Banana Ride and the Rocky Express train ride giving students the chance to catch their breath between the bigger rides. Throughout the day, students enjoyed spending time with friends, exploring the park together, and creating memories that will stay with them for a long time to come.
As proud as we are of what these students achieved over the summer, we were just as proud of how they conducted themselves on the day. From start to finish, students were polite, respectful and responsible, and they represented Bushey Meads School exceptionally well, reflecting our school values and ethos at every turn.
They were considerate towards other visitors while queuing, waiting patiently and showing great awareness of those around them. They were polite and friendly towards Thorpe Park staff throughout the day, in every interaction we saw. Every single student thanked the coach driver before stepping off the coach at the end of the day, a small gesture, but a wonderful reflection of their character.
Members of the public and Thorpe Park staff alike commented on how well our students behaved, and it was a genuine pleasure for staff to spend the day with a group who did themselves, their families and their school so much credit.
The GAP Programme launches again in July, and we cannot wait to see what our students get up to next. Days like this one are a wonderful reminder of why the programme exists, a chance to rest, explore and try something new over the summer, with a brilliant celebration waiting at the other end for those who see it through.
Keep an eye out for next year’s GAP Activities Card, we hope to see even more students take up the challenge.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to parents and carers for your continued support of the GAP Programme. Your encouragement at home, from signing record sheets to cheering students on over the summer, has helped make the GAP such a tremendous success, and days like this one would not be possible without you.
