Latest BMS Alumni News!

It has been great to hear the latest recent news from our BMS Alumni and this week we heard from one of our students studying at Brunel University.

Hashim Minhas currently on course to gain a first class degree at Brunel University wrote….

I just wanted to let you know where I’m at, at the moment. I passed my first year of Business Management with flying colours, achieving firsts in all of my 6 modules. Once I got my results, because I performed so strongly in accounting, I’ve chosen to do Business Management with Accounting in year two.  Back in year 12 at Bushey Meads I never would have dreamed of becoming an accountant!

I also did some extracurricular activities in my first year, for example I tried some new sports like Archery and Tae Kwon Do and the university offer free language courses so I picked up Spanish again, and then received a certificate for that at the end of the year. We also have something called the Brunel+ program where if you amass a certain amount of points by doing different extracurricular activities, volunteering, work experience and things, you get a certificate and it’ll show up on your graduation certificate. Hopefully this year I’m going to become a PAL leader. PAL stands for Peer Assisted Learning and you basically act as a mentor to first years doing your course and you get points towards the Brunel+ award too.
Do tell your students that it is not their grades that define who they are, it’s the amount of work they put in and their attitude and also be sure to tell them that it’s fine if they don’t know what to do with their lives, I’m still figuring it out myself.

All the best,

Hashim.
