Developing Memory Retrieval

Last Friday Head of Chemistry Mr Mehta led the Friday Faculty Foci and provided some top tips to all staff about his work to develop and strengthen memory retrieval in his learners. In many subjects across the school it is becoming a increasingly important aspect of learning to develop in our young people – the ability to accurately recall information previously taught.

Through regular mini tests and quizzes provided at the start and end of lessons, students are encouraged to think hard and remember key information; these opportunities revisit knowledge and concepts taught previously and chunk the learning into manageable sections which can then be applied in different contexts.
Inevitably students are tested at GCSE and Post 16 through exams which require them to accurately remember prior learning so these strategies used, are extremely important in supporting their future success.
