ATHLETICS

DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS

As another fantastic athletics season draws to a close we can celebrate the many successes of our Bushey Meads students. After individual success in the County Championships, the final County League match of the season saw the Senior Boys team qualify for the COUNTY PLATE FINAL after finishing 8th after 6 matches in the regular season. We look forward to hearing how they get on in a later newsletter. This week a hot Wednesday 17th June saw the Watford District Athletics Championships take place with over 1500 students from 18 schools in the Watford District competing in the full range of track and field events at the Woodside Stadium. As ever competition was fierce but the Bushey Meads students can be proud of their efforts. It was a fantastic day of competition with a special mention to K Walker who was crowned District 100m Champion winning the Year 10 Outstanding performance award. In the process of winning the 100m he also broke the District 100m record – an outstanding achievement. E Silver, County Shot put champion,  produced a similarly outstanding performance to win the Year 9 shot competition. M Gibson, competing in her first District Championships produced a fantastic throw to win the year 7 Girls Javelin competition. M Oleksy made it 4 outright District Champions with a great win in the Year 9 Girls 200m Final.

With all the results collated Bushey Meads Boys teams finished top of the Boys District B League for the second year in a row with the BMS Girls teams finishing 4th.This made the teams the outright B League Runners-Up after narrowly being beaten by Grange Academy.
