Arts Award Spotlight – A Night of Drama
As part of the Arts Award, students must experience and review an arts event. Jaydan saw the GCSE scripted performance on the 21st of April, performed by the amazing year 10 drama students, This is what he had to say:
What play did you watch?
I watched the drama GCSE PPE scripted performance, Government Inspector on the 21st of April 2026.
What was it about?
The play was about the relationship between a husband and wife who have a daughter, but their relationship faced marital issues due to the extent of the husband’s worklife.
What did you like about the performance?
I enjoyed the humour, despite the serious subject matter, and I enjoyed the use of direct speech. The costumes were really well thought out, especially the use of a blazer to show a firm authority from the mother. The use of lighting was creative and practical, utilising blackouts for scene changes and warm tones for a more natural effect. Their use of props were well thought out and well rehearsed and further added to the realism.
What is your advice for the performers?
The acting could have used a few more rehearsals as they were still on script, however, coming at this performance from the perspective of an open rehearsal, the show showed a lot of promise.
