FLAIR WEEK – LEADERSHIP IN PE
As part of the whole school Flair Week initiatives Bushey Meads PE classes have given some of our High Achieving students the chance to take leadership responsibility in lessons. Many of our students thrive on this showing skills in communication, organisation and demonstrating responsibility in lessons. The Year 11 KS4 Sports Leadership qualification group also celebrated completing their year of leadership and were presented with their BSJT Level 1 Sports leadership and Leadership Framework I Can Lead Awards. They have been great role models helping out at a number of events including a BSJT Basketball event, charity days and the whole school Sports Day as well as supporting and helping in lessons. The new Year 10 group have just started their training and we look forward to seeing how they progress over the next few months. Also as part of the KS5 CTEC Sport course the Year 12 students are currently in the middle of delivering 6 x coaching sessions to groups of younger students in the school. It has been great to see the students grow in confidence and deliver effective sessions which the younger students are clearly enjoying. Leadership is an example format for a more able PE students to demonstrate their strength in the subject area.

BASKETBALL
Senior Boys v CROXLEY DANES (District League) AWAY Mr Cartledge
Date: Monday 16th March 2026
Result: Won 52-51
Scorers : H Chohan 40, C Keough 4, S Harries 4, A Yu 2, J Akuoko 2
Squad: Sam Fard (Capt) (13), Sam Harries (13), Charles Keough (13). Jake Coady (12), Mathew Tregear (12), Kian Pamplona (12), Hamzah Chohan (12), Justin Akuoko (12), Arthur Yu (11), John Stylianou (13)
Commended performances : H Chohan
Comment : An outstanding individual performance from H Chohan gave the Senior basketball a hard earned win in a thrilling match v Croxley Danes. A strong 1st quarter saw the boys hold an 8 point lead but Croxley Danes took control of the game in the 2nd and 3rd quarter leaving the BMS team trailing by 9 going into the last quarter. H Chohan took control of the offence scoring 18 points in the final quarter with the winning basket coming in the last 30 seconds. His overall total of 40 points was one of the best individual displays seen by a BMS basketballer and a great example of the talent in the school. Well done to the rest of the team who worked tirelessly throughout to support him.
Year 9 Boys v RICKMANSWORTH (District Prem League) AWAY Mr Cartledge
Date: Tuesday 17th March 2026
Result: Lost 61-48
Scorers : E Silver 19, Z Butler 9, R Samin 8, W Reynolds 4, E Rumney 4, J Magkafourakis 4
Squad: E Silver, R Samin, C Allan, Z Butler, J Magkafourakis, L Morian, E Rumney, A Hashmi, W Reynolds
Comment: A good game of basketball with both teams playing well in spells. A really slow start from the BMS team saw the boys trailing 17-4 after the first quarter. However the boys gradually grew into the game with E Silver becoming more and more effective on offence and defence as the game progressed. A particularly strong 3rd quarter saw the team get within 5 points but in the end despite some improved basketball late on the boys just fell short. Well done to all the team who showed good resilience in the game.
FOOTBALL
Year 10 Boys v Parmiters (District League) AWAY Mr Harris
Date: Monday 16th March 2026
Result: Won 6 -1
Squad:
Commended performances : R. Hodgson, R. Doran, L. Douglas-Grant
Comment : After a long hiatus of fixtures the Year 10 boys faced up against Parmiters. Despite not having played for awhile, the boys settled back into the game really comfortably dominating the ball winning the midfield battles and just playing some really nice football. The boys provided a threat down the wings and also caused issues throughout. Early in the first half, they took a comfortable lead for a good finish from R. Hodgson, soon after we scored another making the score 2 – 0 at halftime. In the second half of the dominance continued creating chance after the chance scoring a number on the way. With the full time result finishing 6 – 1. A dominant display to push the boys to the top of the league. Well done to all involved, an impressive performance.
Year 7 District Development 6-a-side
Date: Tuesday 17th March 2026
Result: Won 2, Draw 3, Lost 0
Squad:
Commended performances : M. Webster
Comment :
Late in the year the year seven students got an opportunity to take part in a district development football tournament. The tournament was well attended with nine different schools turning up via the students a good opportunity to represent the school if they have not done so much before. This is really positive experience for the boys as they fought well during the games. Starting off slow with three draws in a row, 0 – 0, 0, – 0, 1 – 1. We went into our fourth game of the group stage and had a commanding win against Reach Free 6 – 1. Moving on from that we got a trip to the third place final against Immanuel College, where we came out 3 – 0 victors. An excellent afternoon and performance from all involved. Well done!
Netball
Year 7 Girls v Futures Academy (District League) HOME Mrs Cartledge
Date:Thursday 12th March 2026
Result: Won 14-1
Squad: G Cole, C Elliott, A Gray, E Ivory, A Karakushi. L Bosawa Bola Sayo, N Guyadeene,P Yogarajan,G Oakes
Commended performances : A Karakushi ( voted by the opposition)
Comment :The year 7 team delivered a great performance this week storming to a fantastic 14-1 win against Futures Academy. Right from the whistle the team demonstrated excellent teamwork and skill across the board. They performed smooth passing down the court with some excellent
passes into the circle which led to goals. What was most impressive was the team’s attitude and work ethic. Despite taking a comfortable lead early on, they never lessened their efforts. They kept their defending tight and their energy high right up to the final whistle.A very special mention goes to A Karakushi who was awarded player of the match which was thoroughly deserved and special as it was her birthday. Also a mention must go to V Hill who has helped and trained the team over the season.
Well done to the entire team for an impressive win
Year 7 Girls District Tournament Parmiters School Mrs Cooper
Date: Monday 16th March 2026
Result: 4th Place
Squad: G Cole, C Elliott, E Ivory, A Karakushi,
L Bosawa Bola Sayo, N Guyadeene, P Yogarajan,
G Oakes
Commended performances : Everyone!
Comment : In the last competitive netball fixture of the season the BMS squad ended a very creditable 4th place, in the district tournament. The girls worked really hard in all of their matches, putting in place some of the things they have been working on in practice and avenging some of the results they had in their league fixtures. An impressive 5-0 victory over The Reach Free set the tone for the afternoon’s matches, really pleasing as this was a team we had suffered defeat to at the start of the year. With further victories and some narrow defeats the tournament eventually won by RMS was very close. It was really nice to see the BMS girls work hard throughout, encouraging each other and demonstrating great team spirit. Well done girls on a very successful first season of netball at BMS and a great showcase for FLAIR week.
