Assistant Headteacher Mrs Greenwood led some powerful and thought provoking assemblies about the hugely important topic of Equality and Diversity, reminding students that it is our diversity and differences that make our school community so rich. She explained to students that equality doesn’t not necessarily mean equity and that some people need appropriate adaptations to be made, to ensure that they can achieve equality and ultimately succeed in life. In summary equality means treating everyone fairly – not necessarily being treated in the same way.
She linked the theme of the week to our core values of respect, responsibility and relationships and reminded us that, above all, being kind to people is key. We learn best when we belong and one of the strengths of Bushey Meads School is that genuine sense of belonging and kindness that we all experience on a daily basis.
She ended the assembly by encouraging each and every person to really celebrate what makes you YOU!
