DISTRICT CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS Mr Cartledge
Year 7 and 9
The last week has seen the annual Watford District Cross-Country Championships take place at Royal Masonic School in Rickmansworth. The race days are some of the biggest sporting events held in the year and involve around 1000 students from local schools across all age groups from Years 7-13. Tuesday 8th November saw the events for Years 7 and 9 with over 30 BMS students taking part in some very competitive races. Special mention to O Isaacs in Year 7 who was our highest placed finisher with a very impressive 11th place in the Year 7 Girls race. Well done to all of our students who took part in the races – all were a credit to the school showing high levels of effort and commitment.
Other top 30 finishers included :
Year 7 Boys : K Mistry 17th
Year 7 Boys : R Hodgson 19th
Year 9 Boys : J Gladdy 19th
FOOTBALL
Year 10A Boys v Beaumont (County Cup) AWAY Mr Burnell
Date : Wednesday 10th November 2022
Result : Lost 4-2
Scorers : K. Tinriover, I. Harry Brown.
Squad: C. Tegzes ,A. Gates, G. Eldridge, I. Harry Brown, N. Morka, D. Ansu Otu, F.Cross, K. Ford, S. Millberry, A. Bracewell, J. Harris, D. Diaz, K. Tinriover.
Commended performances : K. Tinriover, C. Tegzes ,A. Gates.
Comment : Wednesday saw the year 10 team play their second round County Cup game against a strong Beaumont side. The game started very evenly with both teams playing some excellent passing football. Unfortunately Beaumont scored from a corner just before halftime to make it 1-0. The team created a few good chances to score before the break but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net. However the team started very well in the second half applying a lot of pressure on the Beaumont goal which resulted in us scoring 2 goals in quick succession. Our lead didn’t last long as Beaumont were given a penalty to level the scoring. They then scored another 2 goals quickly to win the game. The team pushed until the end but just could not score the goals that they needed.
Year 7A Boys v JFK (County Cup PLATE) HOME Mr Burnell
Date : Thursday 10th November 2022
Result : Won 2-1
Scorers : K. Walker, J. Lewis.
Squad: J. Lewis, F. Blowers, A. Chaudhry, H. Trueman, R. Doran, B. Spencer, J. Wright, R. Hodgson, F. Hoy, K. Walker, K. Johnson, L. Khan.
Commended performances : R. Hodgson, R. Doran, J. Lewis, K. Johnson, A. Chaudhry.
Comment : Thursday saw the year 7 team play their second round of the County Plate competition against a good JFK side. The team started the game really well creating a number of chances to score as well as defending well when not in possession of the ball. Their pressure paid off as the team took the lead towards the end of the first half to take a 1-0 going into half time. The second half started the same way as the first, which resulted in us doubling our lead through a well worked team goal. JFK then grew into the game playing some very good football of their own. They managed to pull a goal back just before the end of the game to make it 2-1. An excellent performance from all involved.
GIRLS FOOTBALL
U13 Girls District 5 a-side tournament (Queens school) Mr O’Kelly
Date : Wednesday 9th November 2022
Results : Runner Up
Squad: M. Sharp, . O. Issac, A. Gates, A. Chance, J. Fearnside, R. Gagiskyte, J. Frumusela, A. Baliguat
Commended performances : A. Chance
Comment : Taking part in a predominantly Year 8 tournament the girls did fantastically well to only lose out on winning the entire tournament in the final to a very strong Parmiters side. With a battling spirit throughout and a solid defensive display in the group stage, the girls managed to win all but one of their games, including against the team who had beaten them the week previously in a 9-a-side game. Winning their half of the competition they faced St Michales in the semi final and easily dispatched them with a confident and competent 3-1 victory. This put our squad into the final against Parmiters, a team who had beaten the girls last year 15-0. This year the spirit was high and the effort remained all the way through the game with the final ending in a 3-1 loss. The girls can be extremely proud of their achievements in the competition and rightly can look forward to challenging teams moving forward. Getting those wins may be just what is needed to gain confidence that they can challenge and win.
Year 9 Boys RUGBY DEVELOPMENT TOURNAMENT Mr Cartledge
Date : Thursday 10th November 2022
Result : Won 1 Lost 2 v St Joan of Arc, Croxley Danes, Reach Free
Squad: S Patel, K Macfarlane-Gentles, A Worth, J Gladdy, M Tregear, L Johnson, O Alao, W Towill, E Ansa Otu, N Guernouti, D Mahmud
Comment : The Year 9 boys rugby squad took part in the first of the Autumn Development Rugby Festivals held at Watford RFC. The boys showed great determination and some really good technique in 2 very closely contested defeats to SJA and Reach Free. A convincing win against Croxley Danes saw the boys rewarded for their efforts. We look forward to further matches over the next few months.
NETBALL
Year 8 v WGGS (League) AWAY Mrs Cartledge
Date : Tuesday 15th November 2022
Result : Lost 13-7
Squad: A Belghiru, A Gibson, H Sookhoo, N Olubodun, R Chudasma. K Shah, M Rumney, E Mullings
Commended performances : H Sookhoo (For fantastic interceptions, passing and creating space in attack)
Comment : This was a great performance by the year 8 netball team. We started strong with great passing and excellent interceptions. At half time we led by one goal. Unfortunately in the second half Watford girls shooting was very strong and they began to pull away. We defended well throughout the game and demonstrated some great attacking moves down court. The girls gave 100% effort during the game and most importantly enjoyed playing. Well done

House Netball began in earnest this week with all girls PE classes starting their respective competitions. The game play was competitive and lots of fantastic play was evident. Full results will follow next week after the completion of all matches.
