ATHLETICS – DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS
Wednesday 29th June saw the return of the District Athletics Championship after a 3 year gap. Over 1500 students from 16 schools in the Watford District competed in the full range of track and field events at the Woodside Stadium. As ever competition was fierce but the Bushey Meads students can be proud of their efforts. Special mention to the Year 7 Boys team who finished in 5th place overall which was a really positive achievement and also to 8 of our students who managed to make it onto the podium in either 2nd or 3rd place overall. Year 8 Cricket Kwik Cricket festival v Immanuel / Grange Academy

Comment : To round off the cricket season the Year 8 boys played in a mini Kwik cricket festival with 2 local schools aimed at promoting the sport in a different format. Matches consisted of 8 x 8 ball overs with all players facing 2 overs in pairs. It was great fun with all the boys enjoying the opportunity to bat and bowl in an exciting wind ball format. The boys batted, bowled and fielded really well, winning both games to win the festival. It has been great to see the enthusiasm by the boys for the sport this summer and we can look forward to building on this in future years.

Comment : This was a very close game with both teams demonstrating strong fielding and batting in the first quarter. The score after the first innings was Bushey Meads- 8
and Immanuel – 8.5. In the next innings the girls batted well and added a further 4 rounders to their score but unfortunately Immanuel’s players managed to get 6 of our players out in the 30 balls . In Immanuel’s batting time they added a further 7.5 to their score which secured them the win.

It was a great game with some strong teamwork and fielding. A special mention to M Cozens for both excellent batting and safe fielding skills..

Junior v Queens (h)
Date : Wednesday 22nd June 2022
Result: Won 17.5- 16.5

Comment : This was a really close and competitive game which enabled all girls to really improve their skills over the course of the match. In the first innings Bushey Meads demonstrated excellent batting skills and managed to secure 11 rounders to Queens 7.5. A special mention to V. Hill who managed to consistently hit the ball really well and gain many rounders for the team . In the second innings Queens improved their batting and managed to gain a further 9 rounders. We were under pressure to bat well and the girls really stepped up and scored a further 6.5 rounders This secured us the win. Well done to all players in a great close match with great fielding and batting skills.

Comment : What a lovely afternoon of rounders with local rivals Queens, this was everything school sport should be, fun, competitive and full of sportsmanship. This was a mixed year group fixture and it was lovely to see the girls from both sides working well together and enjoying a competitive game in a really friendly environment. The first innings was close with Queens taking a 10.5-10 lead, BMS really stepped up their fielding in the second innings, demonstrating high levels of skill and commitment -epitomised by J.Levitan and M.Cozens and their collisions on separate occasions with ball, players and posts with the successful outcome of getting their opponents out! A great win for the girls and so lovely to see all the students enjoying their match.
