Reading Champions Challenge

Last Wednesday, eight of our enthusiastic Year 7 students took part in the National Reading Champions Quiz run by the National Literacy Trust. It’s the first time we’ve entered teams in this event and our students were competing against 45 teams from the North London region, including each other.

Their first challenge was to decide on which of the ten rounds they would play their joker and receive double points. As any quiz enthusiast will appreciate, not knowing exactly what the round titles mean, you never pick the right one – this resulted in a little frustration to say the least! However, there was much excitement and laughter, not to mention competitive spirit between the two Bushey Meads teams.

Sadly, we didn’t finish in the top three and coincidentally both teams finished with the same score, but students learned a lot about teamwork and left with a long list of books they want to read – next year we’ll know what to expect and be well-prepared.

Luxman said ” The competition was so much fun! There were a variety of rounds and a variety of books. I loved how it made me want to read a whole range of genres of books. I hope it inspires other children too!”

The organisers said the aim was for students to share a love of books, have a lot of fun and feel inspired to read more, I would say they achieved that without a doubt!
