Careers Education During Lockdown

Last week I attended the first in this year’s Careers Hub meetings organised by the Careers and Enterprise Company. Bushey Meads is the Lead school for careers in Hertsmere,Watford and Three Rivers.

Our hub comprises of 23 educational establishments which provides us with a great opportunity to share good practice amongst all the schools.

Whilst the current circumstances are intensely challenging, this year is the same, great opportunities still exist to support young people across all settings.

Working with our local Enterprise Coordinator and many online platforms we are able to offer a range of virtual careers talks and virtual work experiences to our students.

Students have been attending talks and participating in experiences within Nursing, Architecture, Accountancy, Veterinary Science and Engineering just to name a few.

Feedback from them is very positive, please see one comment from Roshni in year 10

“Today I joined the big bang stem event and I joined a few of the live sessions including

The Worldwide Race to Develop a Vaccine, Young Talent Against Covid-19 and Explosion of colour: a Gastronaut adventure. They were all brilliant and intriguing and I would love to join something like that again!

Tomorrow I am considering watching the ‘On the frontline: NHS workers tackling coronavirus’ and ‘Ask the experts: your questions about the virus’ live as I missed them both.

Thank you for sharing this great opportunity with us as I am very glad I watched the lives as they were inspiring!”

Anyone who has missed the interactive webinars organised by Careers Enterprise Company can watch a recording of these once the live event has taken place on the following link:
