PE Health and Health Faculty News

The PE and Health Faculty continue to embrace the challenges presented by the covid situation by still making sure that all students can access their 2 hours of physical activity per week. Students have continued to participate in football, touch rugby, netball, handball and basketball outside whilst badminton and indoor tennis have also thrived indoors. It has been great this term to see the rise in popularity of table tennis in the school with the gym turned into a permanent table tennis teaching resource with classes in all years 7-12 all having the opportunity to develop their skills. Attendance at after school table tennis sessions has also been high with lots of students taking the opportunity to stretch and challenge themselves in the sport.

Level 1 Sports Leadership
Despite the many challenges facing the Year 11 Sports leadership group many are well on their way to achieving the Level 1 qualification. On Tuesday 1st December the group took part in a 3 hour session where 12 members of the group delivered a 25 minute sports session to their peers. There was lots of fantastic evidence of sound planning and organisational skills with all students clearly growing in confidence as leaders. The group will now be delivering 15 minute fitness sessions to their peers in Year 11 and then volunteering to support in the Inter House sports events.

L3 CTEC Sport – Sports Coaching
The Year 12 CTECH Sport group have been delivering their coaching blocks to groups of Year 7 and 8 students also this half term. Each year 12 student has to plan, deliver and evaluate 4 progressive coaching sessions as part of Unit 2 and it has been great to see how the quality of the coaching has developed over the last few weeks. The 6th form students have followed all covid protocols to enable them to deliver safe sessions to the KS3 students who have really enjoyed the opportunity to work with the older students in the school. The PE Faculty staff, who have been assessing all the sessions, have been really impressed with the quality of some of the sessions and the way our 6th form students have acted as positive role models for the KS3 participants.
