‘Fused’ rock Standon Calling 2022
For those of you that are new to Bushey Meads, you may not yet have come across our resident rock band comprised of 4 of our most hard-working music students.
A quick look at previous articles from last year will give you some idea of the level of dedication Luca, Jake, Sam & Toby (All in year 10) apply to their craft and the subsequent success they have enjoyed as a direct result.
After winning a county-wide ‘battle of the bands’ competition, playing at a local arts festival, and recording in a professional studio for the first time, the boys had their sights firmly set on their next milestone which just so happened to be their biggest yet.
On Thursday 21st July, ‘Fused’ were booked to play ‘Standon Calling’ festival which is a 4-day event that plays host to more than 15,000 people. Sharing a bill with big names such as ‘Razorlight’, ‘Primal Scream’, ‘Anne-Marie’ and many many more, ‘Fused’ were in fantastic company. They even had ample opportunities to meet some of these well-established music titans when they were making use of their “Artist” wrist bands and enjoying some down time in the backstage area. This culminated in a fantastic impromptu photo session with the oldest and most decorated artists at the festival ‘Madness’ who, just as they were about to take to the stage, took a moment to pose for the cameras and have a brief chat.
As the youngest artists on the bill and one of the opening acts for the entire festival, the boys in ‘Fused’ were a little unsure as to how they would be received but within moments of them taking to the stage in the newly built ‘Dive Bar’, the spectators started rolling in. Playing a mixture of their own music and some covers, the four Bushey Meads students were clearly enjoying themselves and demonstrated that they deserved to be where they were.
So, what’s next for the quartet? Well, keep your eye out for future school performances and be sure to check their socials as they hope to release their debut single in the near future. They also hope to return to Standon Calling next year as well as gracing the stage at other well known festivals.
