Bushey Meads was delighted to welcome Professor de Groot from the University of Manchester this week. Year 11 were treated to an insightful exploration of the witches and witchcraft in Macbeth, in which Professor de Groot unpacked the play’s political tensions surrounding the supernatural. Students engaged fully throughout, asking thoughtful questions and gaining a deeper understanding of Shakespeare’s tragedy as they move toward their GCSE examinations.

Later in the day, our A-level cohort benefited from an advanced seminar on Othello, where Professor de Groot guided them through the play’s intricate themes of identity, race, and power. His expertise offered students a university-level perspective, enriching their critical interpretations of the play.

We are incredibly grateful for his visit and look forward to welcoming Professor de Groot back in the future. Please enjoy the pictures below.
