Remembrance
Assistant Headteacher Mr Mitman led the main school assemblies this week in school and focussed on the important theme of Remembrance. With the 11th of November falling next week, students at Bushey Meads School will be observing a 2 minute silence to mark remembrance day and some classes near the Music Department will get the opportunity to listen to Edie in Year 8 playing the Last Post – a poignant reminder of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.
In the assembly Mr Mitman reminded students of how closely the act of remembrance aligns with the school’s core values of
  • Respect for those who have given up so much for our freedoms
  • Responsibility to show respect and also learn from the mistakes of the past and
  • Relationships to remind us to work together to show a Mind to Be Kind and build positive relationships with those around us – in our families and friendship groups as well as within the local, national and international communities that we live in.
It made for a thought provoking start to the new half term and I was impressed with how well all the students listened to the key messages and responded so respectfully at the end of the assembly as they quietly left the main hall to file off to lessons.
