“From Sketch to Stitch: Year...

Our Year 10 Fashion & Textiles students have been busy tapping into their creativity and textile skills, as they have been designing and creating their very own hoodies and sweatshirts! The latest project in the curriculum has given students the opportunity to experiment with both fashion design and develop crucial garment construction skills.

Throughout the process, students were tasked with selecting fabrics, creating their own patterns, and choosing styles that reflect their personal aesthetic. With some guidance, they learned new techniques, from measuring and cutting fabrics to sewing and adding unique touches, such as screen printed decorations, detailed embroidery, applique, and even upcycling old clothing to fashion it into something brand new!

The project has not only tested their technical skills but also encouraged individuality and personal expression. The results are proving to be nothing short of impressive, with designs ranging from bold graphic statements to subtle, minimalist styles.

As they have worked through each stage of the process, from design sketching to final stitching, students have been able to appreciate the importance of accuracy as well as functionality, and fashion. The outcomes will be completed at the end of this week and will no doubt be a collection of stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces that the students should be very proud of! Keep a look out for more photos of all of the final pieces coming soon!
