The final week of spring term was the school’s 11th annual whole school Health Week with all students in years 7-11 again completing their fitness testing. The aim of the week is to raise awareness about healthy lifestyles and for students to consider how their current lifestyle affects their own levels of fitness. This is the second year we have completed the testing post the pandemic so it is going to be really interesting to see which students have improved their fitness levels. The results of the testing will be available via the Learning Gateway after easter. The attitude of the students towards the testing was excellent with a real supportive environment in the sports hall. Well done to all those students who improved their score from the previous year.
As part of the Health Week we were hoping to complete our annual Fun Run but with the fields in a poor condition due to the adverse weather the PE Faculty ran a day of recreational sport with students taking part in football, handball, basketball, unihoc dodgeball, fitness suite and Just Dance options. It was a great day with all students getting into the spirit of the event and lots of money being raised for charity.
BASKETBALL
Senior Boys v Reach Free (District League) HOME Mr O’Kelly
Date : Wednesday 29th March 2023
Result : Lost 32 – 20
Squad : M Rutter, M Keough, T Bates, N Haines, O Appa, A O’Shea, D Tegzas, J Johnson, T Qarib
Commended performances : The Year 13 players in possibly their last game for BMS
Comment: A very organised opposition, with a strong first half and leading at the break, being held to only 3 points in the entire second half the writing was on the wall for the result. Defensively a strong performance again from the squad, but missing a scoring touch from the field prevented the game being a close one in the end.
Year 9 Boys v Reach Free (District League) AWAY Mr Cartledge
Date : Wednesday 29th March 2023
Result : Won 36-14
Scorers : K Arikat 12, J Gladdy 8, M Wong 2, S Patel 2, D Mahmud 6, K Macfarlane Gentles 6
Squad : J Gladdy, S Patel, D Mahmud, M Wong, E Ansa-Otu, K Arikat, B Okeke, O Alao, K Macfarlane Gentles
Commended performances : Whole team !
Comment: The year 9 boys rounded off a much improved basketball season with a convincing win over Reach Free. After falling behind in the first quarter the boys put in their best performance of the season to dominate the final three quarters. Their was much improved offensive play with the boys showing much higher consistency when driving into the basket.
