Cakes with Kush

By Dayna and Luxman

Have you ever wondered why your cake rises, and what gives it its delectable fluffiness? Or even why your cakes always turned out like flat failures? Well Kush from 8M did. And he was determined to find out.

As he sat in his science lesson he always wondered how to be better then the Gusto more-able booklet came long. The Gusto booklet allowed him to be challenged but also have fun while doing it. As a very curious person, the Gusto project enabled Kush to reach his potential. Looking through the book Kush saw an abundance of different types of tasks, but the one that called out to him was the Chemistry task.

This Chemistry task was about what made bread rise. Most people would have said yeast, but Kush went above and beyond and looked at the chemical makeup of this. Due to an amazing evaluation, Kush was given an extension task which appealed to him. Using both of Kush’s interests (cooking and science) Kush had to spend his time making two cakes, one with alleviating agents, and one without.

As we can see here is Kush’s final product in which he created two cakes. We can see one rose and one did not. Kush wrote an evaluation which outlined every single ingredient.

Kush found his passion due to this activity and you can do the same. Maybe one day this will be you.
