A Very Positive Parents Evening…

This year it has been very positive to receive ongoing feedback about our still relatively new online parents’ evenings. Whilst we do miss the physical ‘in person’ connection with our fantastic parent body (who we do still enjoy meeting at Raising Achievement Evenings, School Productions and other Arts Events throughout the year, as well as important Open Evenings and Options Evenings) the online experiences do seem to be positively received by all involved. This was epitomised in a number of emails I received last week including this one from the parents of one of our Year 9 students.

As parents and carers, we both took to the screens again for our son’s parents’ evening. The meetings were to the point, each teacher was professional, very enthusiastic in their approach, and involved our son fully in each meeting. They were very sensitive to the fact that this was a really important parents’ evening as it was close to taking options and made sure that at every point our son knew that, if he had any questions to ask, he could do this at lunchtime, at the end of a lesson or indeed after school.
We particularly liked the fact that our son has three different teachers in Maths, two of whom we met this evening. We really liked this approach as it gives him a different take away from each lesson with a different method. This is working very well for him and the teachers couldn’t have been more supportive or enthusiastic.
All the teachers were very open and transparent in their approach and asked our son if he had given his options any thought, what he could expect and where he was likely to stand if he chose that particular subject for his GCSE’s.
I wanted to say thank you for keeping the parents’ evenings running on the video system, I’m sure some parents will have gripes, but we really get a lot out of this way of doing it and hope it continues! We are very impressed with the level of teaching in Year 9 and are hoping to see the same when our daughter moves up the school.
