During Governor Day 2020 it was great to meet up with lots of Bushey Meads pupils who shared their views and opinions about a range of different subjects. All the Governors were extremely impressed with how well the students conducted themselves and what they had to say was well thought out and considered. All of the suggestions which the students made were fed back to the Senior Leadership Team and then discussed at our recent Full Governing Body Meeting held last week.

As ‘Student Voice Link Governor’ I spoke to Head Girl, Zuzanna about how students can be heard at Bushey Meads and make a very positive impact in the school. The Student Parliament is a vital way of doing this and has hit the ground running this year, even though it has had to change slightly to ensure that it is Covid safe. Each CDC group has a Parliamentarian or Student Parliament Rep and once a half term they meet to discuss any issues. The Head Boy and Head Girl then report back the discussions to the Senior Leadership Team of the school. The results of this meeting will then be fed back to the parliamentarians who report to the rest of their CDC groups.

These meetings have resulted in many changes being made to the school to make it better, for example reconsidering the one way system and from big things like building a new gym to small things like putting hooks on the back of the toilet doors. Pupil voices are also heard in the subjects as pupils are selected to be Subject Leaders and they meet with the Head of Faculty on a regular basis to discuss how to make that faculty better.

The Senior Leadership Team at Bushey Meads take pride in listening to what the students have to say and then acting upon it accordingly.
