On Tuesday 30th June, a group of Year 9 students studying Spanish travelled to Seville, in the beautiful region of Andalusia, Spain, for an unforgettable cultural and language trip. We had an amazing time, with every day packed full of exciting activities.

After an early morning departure, we arrived in Seville later that day, where we enjoyed our first delicious Spanish dinner.

The following morning, we visited the stunning Grutas de las Maravillas caves before enjoying a picnic and a walk around the picturesque town of Aracena. Later, we took part in a paella workshop, where we learnt how to cook Spain’s most famous dish before enjoying our homemade paella for dinner. It was delicious! In the evening, we walked into the city centre to see the spectacular Metropol Parasol, an impressive wooden structure shaped like giant mushrooms. It looked beautiful,  illuminated at night, and we enjoyed soaking up the lively atmosphere from the steps below.

The next day, we explored the magnificent Real Alcázar, Seville’s historic royal palace. We were fascinated by its breathtaking architecture and the strong Moorish influences throughout the palace. Students especially enjoyed wandering through the magical gardens, surrounded by colourful tiled fountains and taking photos of the peacocks and their babies. We also visited Seville Cathedral, where our audio guides helped us learn more about its fascinating history. Some students even climbed the famous bell tower, La Giralda, to enjoy spectacular views across the city. After another refreshing swim, we visited the Flamenco Museum, where we watched a vibrant flamenco performance and learnt more about this traditional Spanish art form. We finished the day with a stroll through Seville’s charming winding streets before returning to the hotel for another delicious Spanish dinner.

On our final day, we enjoyed a boat trip along the Guadalquivir River, taking in famous landmarks such as the Torre del Oro. After several busy days of sightseeing, it was the perfect way to unwind! We then visited the bustling Mercado de Triana, where we sampled and bought a variety of Spanish foods. Following a picnic lunch in the beautiful María Luisa Park, it was sadly time to board the coach to the airport and begin our journey home.

The trip was a fantastic opportunity to experience Spanish history, culture and language first-hand. We returned with wonderful memories, greater confidence in our Spanish, and a deeper appreciation of this vibrant country.
