Year 7 historians visit Mountfitchet Castle

On Friday 21st April, over 90 year 7 students descended upon Mountfitchet Castle in Stansted Mountfitchet, Essex. This reconstruction of a Motte and Bailey Castle tied in perfectly with the learning year 7 have done this year on the Battle of Hastings and the Norman Conquest.

Students spent the morning exploring the castle grounds and learning about different aspects of medieval life by being able to use hands-on exhibits and by exploring audiovisual displays. They were also able to visit the House on the Hill Toy Museum and get up close to some of the local wildlife that calls Mountfitchet home.
In the afternoon, students had the opportunity to work in groups to create their own documentary of Medieval life as part of a competition. At the time of writing, a number of fantastic entries have been received, and I look forward to receiving more.
