HEALTH WEEK

The end of the spring term was the 14th annual whole school Health Week with all students in years 7-11 again completing their fitness testing. The aim of the week is to raise awareness about healthy lifestyles and for students to consider how their current lifestyle affects their own levels of fitness.Students in Years 7-11 all completed the Multistage fitness test to generate some fitness data to track if individual fitness levels are developing in the school. The results of the testing will be available via the Learning Gateway after easter. The attitude of the students towards the testing was really positive with a genuinely supportive environment in the sports hall. Well done to all those students who improved their score from the previous year

Top year group Bleep test scores this year were :

Boys  Girls
Year 7 F Neal 10.6 C Elliott 8.4
Year 8 D Hope 13.1 V Olas 10.4
Year 9 Z Butler 11.8 E Gillett 9.9
Year 10 F Francos  13.1 P-M Finn 9.2
Year 11  E Richards 11.5  E Jooste 9.1

As part of the Health Week, on Thursday 26th March the PE Faculty ran a day of recreational sport with students taking part in football, basketball, running, walking, “Just dance” and dodgeball activities. It was a great day with all students getting into the spirit of the event and over £1500 being raised for the British Heart Foundation Charity. The PE Faculty Health Week has now raised over £20,000 for the BHF over the last 14 years – a massive thankyou to all students who donated.

BOYS FOOTBALL

The end of the spring term saw the end of another football season. The year 7-Senior teams have competed in the District leagues and County Cups with over 70 matches being played. Special mention to the Year 7 and Year 10 teams who both won their respective Division 1 District Leagues and to the Year 9 team who reached the County Plate semi-final. It was also great to see the season finish with the Year 7 and 8 District Development 6-side competitions for students who have not represented school teams. Over 150 boys have represented the school at football this year which is a great reflection of the popularity of the sport. Well done and we look forward to the new season in September.

Year 8 District Development 6-a-side Mr Harris/Mr James

Date: Thursday 19th March 2026

Result:

Team 1: Won – 2, Draw – 1, Lost 2

Team 2:

Squad

Team 1: S Berg, S Isles, T Muranaka, M Lawrence, D. Cohen, H. Mulindwa

Team 2: R Sharman, A Lake, B Stanley, Z Gavriel, A Joslin, D Vraciu, D. Lissner

Commended performances: M. Lawrence

Comment: On Thursday, the Year 8 boys had the opportunity to take part in a competitive football tournament hosted by Westfield School. This was an excellent opportunity for some students who have not featured often in the school team to take the chance to play some competitive football, and that’s exactly what it was, up against a host of different schools. The boys had two teams, which faced off and had competitive games. The first game for Team 1 was against Queens, which, after some relaxed defending, we lost 2 – 0, and then we faced Westfield, which ended in a draw. Then, we faced Reach Free, which was a resounding win, 4 – 1. Goals from D. Cohen, H. Mulindwa & T. Muranaka sealed the win there. Onto the semi-final, they faced Westfield’s other team, where they came through victorious, winning 2 – 0. In the final, we met Queens once again, and despite playing much better in this game than when we first played them, we unfortunately lost the game 1 – 0 through a spectacular late volley in the bottom corner. Despite this, throughout the tournament, M. Lawrence was one standout for Team 1, as he kept the team in it early on and throughout, making crucial saves, keeping Team 1 in the game, and only conceding 3 goals in the whole tournament.

GIRLS FOOTBALL

It is with great pleasure that we can share and celebrate Bella Fowler’s (Yr9) success in making 2 National football finals.

Bella is part of the Herts Schools U14 squad who have made it to the National Schools Final and in addition as a member of the Watford JPL team who have also made the national final.

What great news to end the term on and we look forward to hearing how both finals go in the near future.

Well Done Bella!

The Herts Schools U14 girls National Cup Finalists.

NETBALL

The Netball season has now sadly come to a close. The BMS teams (from years 7-sixth form) have played over 50 competitive fixtures ranging from league matches to tournaments and friendly games.

Alongside this the turnout at training especially amongst years 7,8,9 has been fantastic.

There have been lots of highlights throughout the season, and sometimes some disappointments but the girls have played with commitment and eagerness and most of all it’s been great to see the enjoyment on their faces.

Netball will resume in September where we look forward to welcoming old and new faces.

We hope to see lots of students attending athletics and rounders clubs after the Easter break, where we will have lots more training and fixture opportunities.

Congratulations to all the girls who have represented the school, in fixtures, so far this year.

PE kit

It is essential that students have the full correct PE kit for all lessons. This includes shinpads and black /yellow socks when participating in football lessons and also a pair of white sports socks for all other activities. Students will be reminded when activities change. Students not bringing the correct kit will instantly receive consequence points.

Girls should be wearing plain black shorts which are longer than the length of their PE shirt or hoody. Leggings should be black sports leggings and not see through.  Black tracksuit bottoms are also permitted.

ALL jewellery should be removed prior to the start of the lesson, including earrings, and hair should be tied up.
