DEAR Moments at BMS
At Bushey Meads we are extremely fortunate to have Lead Practitioner for English and Whole School Literacy Mr Johnson overseeing our excellent literacy and reading programmes at BMS which underpin achievements for all, across our diverse curriculum. On Monday morning, for our Monday Magic Moment, he explained to all staff about one of our key initiatives to secure excellent progress in this area – our Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) Moments.
Throughout the year we organise six DEAR moments when the whole school falls silent and we all ‘drop everything and read’. Sometimes the reading is linked to the lesson the students are in at the time and sometimes the reading is based on any fiction book the students have in their bags. With that in mind, as parents and carers, do make sure your child always has a book in their bag to use and read.
Our DEAR programme is just one of our embedded and powerful strategies, encouraging and enabling all students to achieve their true potential at BMS.
