In our Staff Briefing ‘Monday Magic Moment’ at the start of this last week of the autumn term, our hardworking Head of Physics Miss Booth shared some best practice in relation to preparing students for examinations.
Using the popular ‘question a day’ method with her additional emphasis on guiding the students through a carefully scaffolded approach to tackling the questions, she ensures that student success is maximised.
Her use of card sort exercises and the sharing of clear success criteria were just two examples of effective strategies used. She also highlighted to us the power of emphasising the key command words in the questions and encouraging the appropriate student response to these that often enables them to gain those all important extra marks.
It was a great start to the week.
