It has been an exciting and creative year for the Performing Arts Faculty, with students across Drama, Dance, Music and Art sharing their talents through a range of inspiring events and performances.
Drama students have delivered some amazing performances throughout the year, demonstrating confidence, creativity and teamwork both on stage and behind the scenes. A particular highlight was this year’s school production of Seussical the Musical. The colourful, energetic show brought together students from across the school and was a wonderful celebration of music, acting and imagination. Everyone involved should be extremely proud of the commitment and enthusiasm they brought to the production.
Dance students have also impressed audiences with their fantastic performances throughout the year. Their work has showcased a wide range of styles, as well as the dedication, skill and expression that students have developed through rehearsals and performances. Students have also really enjoyed the opportunities given by the dance department to go and see exciting West End shows such as Cabaret and MJ The Musical. A group of students also took part in the annual The Great Big Dance Off competition where dance groups nationally compete.
The Music Department has enjoyed a busy and successful year, with students taking part in a variety of performances and musical opportunities. Our brass musicians performed brilliantly to some of the parents, showcasing their developing skills and commitment. Many students have also worked hard towards their solo music examinations, demonstrating real perseverance and musical progress. The music has also been taking full advantage of the beautiful weather recently and doing their African Drumming lessons outside! We are also looking forward to the upcoming Meads Fest on 8th July, which promises to be a fantastic celebration of the musical talent within our school community.
The Art Department celebrated the end of the academic year with its annual exhibition, showcasing an impressive selection of GCSE and A Level work. The exhibition also included artwork from pupils at Little Reddings and Hartsbourne Primary Schools, creating a brilliant opportunity to celebrate creativity across our wider school community. Visitors were able to see the high standard of work produced by students of all ages, from thoughtful sketchbooks and experimental pieces to ambitious final outcomes. In recent lessons, students have been able to explore the exhibition and produce some of their own work in response to it.
In addition to fantastic art lessons and exhibitions, GCSE and A Level students have had opportunities to visit the Tate Britain, to help start their ESA’s and the National Portrait Gallery for specialist workshops linked to the theme of Identity.
Thank you to all students, staff, families and visitors who have supported the Performing Arts Faculty this year. We look forward to another year of creativity, performance and celebration.
