Year 11 Step into Dickens’ World
Our Year 11 students recently traded the modern classrooms of Bushey Meads School for the cobblestone charm of Victorian London, visiting the Charles Dickens Museum. This historic townhouse was the very place where Dickens lived as a rising star, and where he penned Oliver Twist. Students had the opportunity to see the author’s own writing desk, providing a powerful and tangible connection to the literature they have been studying in class.
The highlight of the day was an immersive escape room workshop centred on the supernatural elements of A Christmas Carol. Students delved deep into the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come, exploring how Dickens used these spectral figures as catalysts for Scrooge’s transformation.
By exploring the Victorian fascination with the macabre and the social injustices of the time, our students gained fresh insights into the “spirit” of the novel.
Please enjoy these pictures of the visit.
