ATHLETICS

DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS

As another fantastic athletics season draws to a close we can celebrate the many successes of our Bushey Meads students. After individual success in the County Championships, the final County League match of the season saw the Senior Boys team qualify for the COUNTY PLATE FINAL after finishing 7th after 6 matches in the regular season. We look forward to hearing how they get on in a later newsletter. This week a very hot Wednesday 18th June saw the Watford District Athletics Championships take place with over 1500 students from 16 schools in the Watford District competing in the full range of track and field events at the Woodside Stadium. As ever competition was fierce but the Bushey Meads students can be proud of their efforts. It was a fantastic day of competition with a special mention to K Walker who was crowned District 200m Champion to add to his County 100m win the previous weekend. In the process of winning the 200m he also broke the District 200m record – an outstanding achievement. E Henry, County 100m runner-up,  produced a similarly outstanding performance to win the Year 10 100m title. With all the results collated Bushey Meads Boys teams finished top of the Boys District B League with the BMS Girls teams finishing 4th.This made the teams the outright B League Runners-Up after narrowly being beaten by Grange Academy. ROUNDERS

Year 7 Rounders.

Date : Thursday 19th June 2025

Score : Lost 18 -15

Squad : A Sharma, J Hearn, V Delenska, Q Marimat,A Kumah, F Shire, J Blowers, I Marle, E Coetzee, E Jacks

Comment : The year 7 girls’ rounders team put in a determined and spirited performance in scorching conditions . With the sun blazing overhead, it was a challenging afternoon for both teams, but our players showed resilience, teamwork, and steady improvement throughout the match. The first half was closely contested. Our batters started well, notching up 7 rounders by half-time. The opposition however managed to gain 9.5 .Our fielders worked hard to contain them, catching a few balls and getting players out. After the first innings, the match continued at a high tempo. Our batting stepped up a gear, with several players hitting deep shots and making clever decisions to rack up a further 8 rounders. Fielding also improved, with tighter throws and better communication across the pitch. However, the opposition’s batting remained a threat throughout and they pushed us all the way, scoring 8.5 more rounders in the second half. A great effort by all players.

Double congratulations go to B Fowler (year 8) who has not only made it through to the reserve squad for the Hertfordshire County School’s football team for next year’s U14’s, but has also learnt that she has been successful in achieving a place in the Watford Ladies U14 Academy Squad.

This is a great achievement for Bella and we look forward to hearing about her footballing progress.

Well done Bella.
