Reminders

1. A reminder as we move into the winter months that ALL boys must have a BMS long sleeved multisports top for use for outdoor lessons. We will be teaching rugby after half term where this is an essential item.
2. Parents visiting the BMS site to watch a sports fixture must sign in at reception on arrival.
3. Any students watching a BMS school fixture must be respectful at all times. If student behaviour is deemed unacceptable students will be asked to leave the site.

Year 7A Boys v Futures Academy (District Division 1) AWAY  Mr Harris

Date: Thursday 10th October 2024

Result: Won 3 – 1

Comment: Early in the game, we got a good start earning a penalty from a bizarre situation from the throw in. As the ball came into the box a Futures Academy player almost saved the ball whilst in the air. C. Vaughan smashed this penalty into the top right hand corner of the goal. After this we switched off and did not create many chances and allowed them back into it. At half time, we came in winning 1 – 0 thanks to the heroics from C. Dias in goal. He saved us twice in the first half with one on one situations. Into the second half, we started slow and through our own mistakes we let the ball past us in defence and their pacy striker came through and managed to slot home at an extremely acute angle. 1 – 1, we refocused and regained some control, then as C. Vaughan moved into the box with the ball, a push in his back and another penalty given, this time F. Murphy stepped up to take and whilst the first effort was saved, he was on the rebound to finish. Then in the latter end of the game, D. Hope was put through by C. Killpack to hit a shot one on one with the keeper through his legs and tapped home in the end. A good finish to the game and a good result for the boys. Well done all, and onto the next game.

Comment : A combined Under 18  boys A/B team played out an enjoyable District League fixture with St Margarets with all boys making a positive contribution. The boys dominated the game for long periods with all players playing at least half the match. It was great to see so many involved and we look forward to more B team fixtures in the future.

 

Year 11 Boys v Stanborough (County Cup) HOME  Mr Cartledge

Comment : The year 11 boys continued their good form with a comfortable win over Stanborough School in the 2nd round of the County Cup. The boys controlled the game throughout creating numerous chances. Special mention to L Fearnside who completed a fine hat-trick.

Comment: Another tough afternoon for the Year 10 boys, this time disappointment rather than performance. We faced an equally matched side of Malborough School in the County Cup this week. After working our way back into the game from 1 – 0 to 2 – 1 in the league, we managed to get ourselves back in front to 3 – 2 with only a short amount of time left on the clock. With the lack attack of in the game, the ball came over the top of the defence and unfortunately, we conceded a penalty, the last kick of the game and J. Hiett saved the penalty which was unfortunately followed in by their penalty taker. 3 – 3 at the final whistle. The short extra time was difficult with both teams creating chances in the game. Until the last kick once again where the ball got floated into the back post at a corner, after failing to deal with it, the Marlborough player hit home at the back post and into the net. Agony at the final whistle. The boys put out an excellent performance throughout, J. Hiett gets a special mention for keeping us in the game again this week. We move into our next week in a few weeks and also into the County Plate competition. One that we won a few years back and hope to repeat that this year.

 

GIRLS FOOTBALL

Comment : A tough afternoon for the Girls but they played well as their first game together. Possession was kept with great passing and ball handling throughout the first half of the game. A couple of saves made and a good few runs down the pitch. However, it wasn’t quite enough to get past the opposition’s tight defence and we let our heads go down within the second half which increased their lead. Good efforts for the first game together – well done and the only way is up!

U15 Girls v WGGS  (League) Home  Mrs Cooper

Comment : A tough game against very strong opposition for the U15 team.  However the score did not reflect some of the opportunities the BMS team had and also the fine saves made by GK Z.Chowdhury. This new look BMS team worked hard to try to negate the opposition’s possession and kept battling, with several good scoring opportunities especially in the last 10 minutes when L.Brown put the ball in the net to score the first goal of the season. Having played the 2 toughest teams in the league and with the vital goal I’m sure the future is positive. Great determination ladies.

 

Big thanks to A.Chaudhry in year 12 for refereeing both of these games. It’s great for the students to see such a positive sixth form role model. Alayna qualified as a referee last year and is building up her game experience and giving up her time to support girls football at BMS. Well Done Alayna.

 

NETBALL

Year 10 Girls v Queens (League) AWAY  Mrs Cooper

Date : Monday 14th October 2024

Commended performances : The whole team and E.Mullings who was nominated by the opposition.

Comment : Despite having to play a player short the year 10 team kept battling and worked hard throughout the game. They were commended by the Queens staff for their attitudes and the level of performance they managed to achieve. This was always going to be a tough game but with teamwork and positivity the girls were in contact until the third quarter where Queens made their additional player count.  I’m really proud of the girls’ efforts and on another day this could have been a different outcome.  Well player ladies.

Comment : This was a really close game from the onset with the score yo-yoing between the teams. BMS started slowly and the defence had to work really hard to regain possession, some sloppy passing led to a number of turnover balls and Queens took the lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw the BMS team settle into the game and look much more assured on the ball. Some great shooting meant the lead changed hands and BMS led at the halfway point. The third quarter finished all square but sadly Queens pulled away in the final quarter to secure a narrow victory. This was the first fixture of the season for the year 9 team and having moved up a league from last season they acquitted themselves very well.

Comment : A great performance from the girls with many turnovers, they worked hard to get to the goal. The defence worked hard and communication between the centre court improved as the game went on. Comment: It was a great start for the girls getting a lead of 7-1 by the first half. Started very calm and composed throughout the court with many live turnovers. Communication started off great and spacing around the court was even. The second half was a little frantic at times and we lost possession through panic. But the girls kept themselves ahead finishing with a big win. Well done on your first win of the season, to many more!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PE kit

It is essential that students have the full correct PE kit for all lessons. This includes shinpads and black /yellow socks when participating in football lessons and also a pair of white sports socks for all other activities. Students will be reminded when activities change. Students not bringing the correct kit will instantly receive consequence points.

Girls should be wearing plain black shorts which are longer than the length of their PE shirt or hoody. Leggings should be black sports leggings and not see through.  Black tracksuit bottoms are also permitted.

ALL jewellery should be removed prior to the start of the lesson, including earrings, and hair should be tied up.
