BASKETBALL

Year 7 Boys v Westfield (District League) AWAY  Mr Cartledge

Date : Thursday 1st February 2024

Result : Won 20-13

Scorers : E Silver 8, E Rumney 4, O Phillips 4, C Allan 2, A Hussain 2

Squad : E Silver, E Rumney, A Hussain, O Phillips, C Allan, R Khebichat, G Fogden, J Zulberg, D Isles, R Fox, D Henry

Commended performances : O Phillips, A Hussain

Comment : The boys made it 2 wins out of 2 with a convincing win over Westfield. Despite not being as successful with their shooting as Game 1, a really strong third quarter won the game for the boys with E Silver again top scoring. Special mention to O Phillips for his game understanding and excellent defence.

Year 9 Boys v Croxley Danes (District League) HOME  Mr Harris

Date : Thursday 1st February 2024

Result : Won 22-19

Scorers : A. Yu (6), N. Konopka (6), B. Hughes (4), H. Hayward (4), H. McManus (2)

Squad : H. Hayward, H. McManus, N. Konopka, B. Hughes, R. Carbon-Felix, A. Yu, Y. Goyal, K. Banfieild, H. Neal.

Comment : Thursday afternoon, we saw the visit of Croxley Danes to BMS to face off in our second game of the year. In this game, we looked to build upon our first win against Westfield and take our confidence in our next game. In this game, we started well offensively but then struggled in defence, we went in at the end of the first quarter winning 8 – 6. Moving into the second, we managed to improve our defence performance and we scored another 8 pts but this time only conceded four. B. Hughes scored a great layup and jump shot to bring us in at the half winning 16 – 10. We moved into the second half of the game and our defensive performance stepped up whilst Croxley Danes attacked relentlessly, we worked hard for each other and managed to hold the game off and finish the game 22 – 19 winners. Another close game, but a strong performance from the side, well done to all.

Year 10 Boys v Croxley Danes (District League) HOME  Mr Cartledge

Date : Monday 5th February 2024

Result : Lost 33-18

Scorers : J Gladdy 6, M Tregear 4, S Williams 2, J Coady 2, A Ansa Otu 2, M Wong 2

Squad : S Patel, B Okeke, M Wong, A Worth, J Coady, S Williams, E Ansa Otu, J Gladdy, G Guainiere, M Tregear

Commended performances : J Gladdy

Comment : A very competitive game of basketball saw two strong teams go head to head at the top of Division 1. A strong first quarter from Westfield saw them move into a 6 point lead but BMS fought back with 5 baskets in the 2nd half. Some good outside shooting from Westfield saw them overpower the BMS team in the 2nd half but the boys can be pleased with a really resilient display with some improved movement on offence.

Commended performances : E Silver

Comment : The Year 7 boys suffered their first defeat of the season in a close, well contested game with Grange. The boys led in the first quarter but struggled to maintain focus on defence which saw the visitors achieve a deserved victory. The boys can look forward to working on the weaknesses in the next game.

Commended performances : A Belghira for excellent defending and movement down court,

Comment : This was a challenging game with some positive play by all. St Margarets defence was very strong which restricted our passess into the shooting circle. A special mention to Y Khan for playing up a year and defending well. We remain positive and look forward to working on our weaknesses to strengthen our play.

The consistency of strong accurate passes allowed the shooters to gain possession and by half time they edged ahead by nine goals. A special mention to M Huryta for playing up 2 years and performing very well in the circle. A well deserved win with great team work by all.
