Year 9 Boys v Croxley Danes (District League) AWAY Mr Cartledge
Date : Monday 6th February 2023
Result : Won 3-2
Scorers : M Wong, R Totesaut-Christou, G Guainiere (pen)
Squad: J Gladdy, Z Watson, D Mahmud, E Ansa-Otu, L Fearnside, J Allan, G Guainiere, A Worth, S Mowle, M Wong, R Totesaut-Christou, B Okeke, Z Bertie, K Fung
Commended performances : Whole team
Comment : The Year 9 boys team put in a fantastic team performance to clinch a place in the District League Division 1 Final. Having won 4 of the previous 5 league matches the boys needed to beat nearest rivals Croxley Danes to seal a place in the Final. A very tense first half saw the boys have a lot of possession and then hit the post and bar without breaking the deadlock. A late penalty from Croxley saw the team go into the interval behind. However the boys dominated the second half and goals from M Wong, R Totesaut-Christou and G Guainiere (pen) were a just reward for the boys efforts. A late Croxley goal saw a tense finish but a late save from Z Watson gave the boys a fully deserved victory. The boys now face Futures Academy in the league Final as well as still being in the semi-final of the County Plate competition. Well done to the whole squad who have been a pleasure to coach this year making improvements in all areas of the pitch.

Year 7 Boys v Rickmansworth (District League) HOME Mr Burnell
Date : Tuesday 7th February 2023
Result : Won 10-8
Scorers : B. Spencer
Squad : F. Gee, R. Doran, B. Spencer, J. Andrews, D. Snowden, M. G Matthews, R. Payne, S. Mcgrath, K. Goldner, K. Walker, E. Pinto.
Commended performances : B. Spencer, R. Payne, D. Snowden, M. G Matthews.
Comment: Tuesday saw the year 7 team play their first basketball game of the season against a good Rickmansworth side. The team started the game strongly by scoring their first basket within the first minute of the game. They then scored another one soon after to take a 4-0 lead into the second quarter. The second quarter was a very even contest as both teams continued to grow into the game. The score reflected this as the teams went in 6-2 at half time. The third quarter saw Rickmansworth dominate the game, upon which the score reflected as by the end of the quarter the scores were level at 8-8. The final quarter was a very tense quarter with both teams having chances to score but ultimately neither side was able to, therefore the game went into a deciding 5 minute overtime. During this overtime the team managed to score what would be the winning bracket 2 minutes before the end of the game. An excellent start to basketball at Bushey Meads School with plenty to improve on for the next game. Well done to all involved.
Year 8 Boys v Croxley Danes (District League) HOME Mr Harris

Squad : J. Cunningham, H. Hayward, N. Konopka, F. Mordecai, K. Chester-Canavan, J. Parkes, H. McManus, H. Wills, E. Henry, G. Amoako-Wiredu, K. Gibson.
Commended performances : F. Mordecai, H. Wills, H. Hayward.
Comment: On Wednesday, we hosted Croxley Danes in a highly competitive basketball game. In the first quarter, we were slow to start the game and therefore conceded an early few baskets which allowed Croxley Danes into the game. Some early points from Croxley Danes and we were going into the end of the first quarter 4 – 8 down. Into the second quarter, we really kicked on and created some excellent chances but failed to score many of the chances. H. Hayward led the charge for the team, scoring 4 points, whilst H. Wills played excellently scoring some quick points. At half time,16 – 8 and moving into the second half of the game, we went up 22 – 16 after focusing on driving to the basket and scoring consistent layups. Finally into the final quarter we remained confident and managed to hold off Croxley Danes until late at the end of the game where we made it slightly difficult for ourselves but we managed to hold on and get the win, finally 27 – 26. A good win against a strong team, well done all.

Year 9 Girls v St. Joan of Arc (District League) AWAY Mrs Cooper
Date : Monday 6th February 2023
Result : Lost 3-8
Squad: V.Hill, S.Doran, I Wijerathna, L.Qarib, I.Palan, M.Bazile, A.Gibson
Commended performances : M.Bazile
Comment : A tough game for a depleted year 9 team. The game started well with BMS taking an early lead courtesy of some great passing play to feed the shooters and excellent work in defence. However SJA grew into the game and began to eradicate their earlier mistakes. The scores remained close until the final quarter when the SJA shooters began scoring more frequently and the BMS team were unable to reduce the deficit.
Year 10 Girls v St. Joan of Arc (District League) AWAY Mrs Cooper
Date : Monday 6th February 2023
Result : Lost 19-9
Squad: M.Cozens, E.Hauff, L.Krikler, E.Rogers, S.Mullings, N.Donald, E.Avci, I.Payne
Commended performances : N.Donald and E.Rogers great game play and never giving up.
Comment : A disappointing result for the year 10 team who looked ‘match rusty’ in their first game since Christmas. They started well, matching their opposition goal for goal but unfortunately were unable to keep this up and the SJA team forged ahead. A better final quarter saw the score closed but not enough to stop the defeat. Lots of things to build upon in the next match.
Year 10 Girls v Reach Free (District League) AWAY Mrs Cooper
Date : Tuesday 7th February 2023
Result : Lost 12-14
Squad: M.Cozens, E.Hauff, L.Krikler, E.Rogers, S.Mullings, N.Donald, J.Verrey, E.Avci
Commended performances : N.Donald
Comment : A much better team performance saw the year 10’s narrowly defeated in the last minute. In a close opening half the BMS team went into the break 5-4 down before pulling level at the end of the first quarter. Losing a player to injury did not help the momentum of the performance and Reach Free edged ahead before being pulled back. Some fantastic shooting from the Reach Free shooters saw them retake the lead and unfortunately BMS were unable to claw back the deficit. A much better performance and an unlucky loss – well done girls.
Senior Girls v Reach Free (FRIENDLY) AWAY Mrs Cooper
Date : Tuesday 7th February 2023
Result : Lost
Squad: H.Imansoura, K.Kovarova, E.Cloote, R.Wheeler, A.Ashar, M Bazile
Commended performances : M Bazile
Comment : A tough game for the senior girls team against very well organised opposition. Having played few matches this season the BMS team were under pressure from the onset. Some fantastic defensive work from Reach Free restricted the BMS shooters whilst the home team were able to pull away.
The BMS girls did not give up though and although they were unable to close the gap they did manage to draw the final quarter. Well done ladies.
Year 7 Girls v Westfield (District League) AWAY Mrs Cooper
Date : Wednesday 8th February 2023
Result : Won 17-6
Squad: J.Isles, H.Hurtya, S.Verrey, L.Mullane, E.Hanbury, M.Perkins-Faulkner, Y.Khan, S.Alcendor,
Commended performances : Y.Khan for fantastic defending
Comment : A great performance from the year 7 squad led to a commanding victory over Westfield. With a few changes in personnel the first few minutes were a little shaky and BMS conceded first, however from this point on we went on to dominate the game. The girls worked really hard to bring the ball up court and feed J.Isles, M.Hurtya and A.Lankshear who shared the goals between each other. Winning every quarter the girls fully deserved their victory. Well done. Thanks also to E.Rogers and S.Verrey for their continued support giving up their time to assist in coaching the girls this season.
Year 8 Girls v Futures Academy Watford (District League) AWAY Mrs Cartledge
Date : Wednesday 8th February 2023
Result : Lost 6-4
Squad: N Edirisuriya, R Chudasma, K Shah, E Mullings, A Belghiru, A Gibson, V Melero
Commended performances : R Chudasma for great passing and interceptions
Comment :This was a really close game with the girls in the lead during the first half. All the girls worked very hard to win interceptions and defend their players. In the third quarter we went up by one goal . Unfortunately the girls could not retain their lead and Future academies edged away winning by two goals. A great game with some good passing and defending shown by all throughout the game.
Year 9 Girls v Futures Academy Watford (District League) AWAY Mrs Cartledge
Date : Wednesday 8th February 2023
Result : Lost
Squad: V.Hill, S.Doran, I Wijerathna, L.Qarib, I.Palan, M.Bazile, E.Bird, Z O’Brart
Commended performances : V Hill for fantastic shooting.
Comment : This was a tough game for the year 9 team. The Future Academies shooter and centre were very tall and they used this to their full advantage. The girls as always showed resilience and determination linking some great passes down court and also performing some strong interceptions. Unfortunately their opposition pulled away in the second half by a strong lead and we could not catch up.
As always it was a pleasure to take the team. Well done girls for always giving 100% effort.
