World Book Day Everyday

Thank you and well done to everyone who participated in our World Book Day. Following on from last week’s events I had the pleasure of awarding students with their prizes. It is important to remember that World Book Day is more than just one day a year, it is about celebrating books and reading all year round. Indeed, this year’s theme is ‘Share a Story’ and aims to develop young people into lifelong readers.

Simple steps can make all the difference to a child’s literacy. For instance, turning on the subtitles when watching television and streaming could be an opportunity to improve reading skills. Indeed, recent research has shown that adding subtitles can potentially double the chances of someone becoming good at reading.

Additionally, following the success of World Book Day the organisation have ‘published’ a programme of ‘Share a Story’ YouTube readings to encourage children and their families to enjoy 10 minutes a day of ‘joy and hope’ during recent times.
