Commended performances : K. Walker, B. Spencer, J. Wright.
Comment : Thursday saw the year 7A team play in the next round of the county plate competition. The team started well and created a few good chances to score. They did eventually take one of our chances midway through the first half through an excellent team goal. However, Dame Alice Owens grew into the game and levelled the score soon after. With the scores level at the break the team knew they needed to start the second half well in order to win the game and that is exactly what the team did. They scored two quick goals and commanded the half. Midway through the second half the team scored and forth. Dame Alice Owens scored two goals towards the end but the team did enough to win the game.

Commended performances : J. Wright, R. Hodgson.
Comment : Monday saw the year 7A team play their final league game of the season away at Grange Academy. The team started slowly and conceded the first goal of the game within the first minute. The team then had a good chance to level the scoring but could not find the back of the net. Grange then again dominated the rest of the half scoring three more excellent team goals. In the second half the team played like a completely different side and created a lot of good chances but failed to score.
Senior Boys v Grange Academy (District League) HOME Mr Cartledge
Date : Thursday 26th January 2023
Result : Lost 7-2
Scorers : D Barbakadze, K Larkin
Squad: A Kothary (GK), C Lynch, T Bates, E Anthony, M Keough, T Barnes, D Tegzes, A Ali, K Larkin, D Barbakadze, A Sacikarah, F Carpenter, A Kazmi, A Chaudhry Shamas, A Kazmi
Commended performances : D Tegzes
Comment : A disastrous opening 20 minutes of the game in which the boys conceded 6 goals cost the team the opportunity of qualifying for the District League Final. Needing a win the boys made a number of errors giving themselves a mountain to climb in the opening stages of the game. The boys showed good spirit and managed to pull 2 goals back but it proved too much. This was the final game of the season and we say farewell to S Booth, C Lynch, E Anthony, A Kothary, M Keough and T Barnes who have been excellent representatives of BMS school teams over the last 7 years.
Y8 Boys DISTRICT Premier League 6-a-side Tournament Mr Harris
Date : Monday 30th January 2023
Results : vs St Clement Danes L 1 – 0, vs Rickmansworth D 0 – 0, vs Parmiters D 0 – 0, vs Queens L 1 – 0
Squad : A. Nakazawa, L. Avci, J. Cunningham, H. Wills, N. Konopka, K. Gibson.
Comment: On Monday the Year 8 team faced a tough challenge with the minimum of six players playing after a number of students dropped out late. The six boys that came along put in an excellent shift as they played for 40 minutes with only a short break between all the games. We started the tournament extremely well against a very strong St Clement Danes side where we were the better team for the most part and should have comfortably won. Unfortunately our finishing let us down in the end and we conceded a late goal to finish the game. In the next two games, the boys continued working extremely hard and had two cagey matches vs Rickmansworth and Parmiters school which ended 0 – 0. Both games we again created a few chances but failed to find the back of the net. We continued working well in these and stopped the other team from school with some crucial saves from A. Nakazawa. Finally, we went into our match vs Queens where we held them up well and created some chances for ourselves. We thrived on taking some early shots and working the ball up the pitch. In the end, our lack of players stopped us from taking the win in this game and fatigue set in. Eventually, we conceded a late goal through a powerful shot that hit the side netting. Overall an excellent performance from those involved this evening, they put in an excellent shift and worked extremely hard as a team. Well done to A. Nakazawa who stepped in and represented the school football team for the first time in this tournament.
Y8 Boys DISTRICT Division 1 6-a-side Tournament Mr Cartledge/Mr James
Date : Monday 30th January 2023
Results : v Immanuel W 1-0, v R Free B 0-0, v R Free A W2-1, v St Joan of Arc L7-1 [3rd overall]
Squad : E. Richards, Z. Zeb, H. Neal, L. Bird, S. Jabarkhail, K. Chester-Canavan, K. Banfield
Comment: The players experienced a 6 aside tournament which was competitive at PowerLeague, the home of small sided football. The football that we played was very pleasing by passing the ball around nicely and creating some good opportunities. The goals that we did score came from some very good passing moves. We started the tournament well with a nice 1-0 win and progressed from there. The team showed lots of commitment and competence especially against a very strong Reach Free A side. Unfortunately at the end we did get beat by the deserved winners St Joan Of Arc. (Mr James)
Many thanks and well done to Mr Dada (LSA) and B Winslett from the 6th form who expertly refereed all the games.
BASKETBALL
Year 9 Boys v Grange Academy (District League) AWAY Mr Cartledge
Date : Thursday 26th January 2023
Result : Lost 41-29
Scorers : M Wong 13, D Mahmud 10, J Gladdy 2, G Guainiere 2 K Arikat 2
Squad : J Gladdy, S Patel, J Coady, D Mahmud, M Wong, E Ansa-Otu, K Arikat, G Guainiere, B Okeke
Commended performances : D Mahmud
Comment: The Year 9 boys put in a much improved display and were unlucky to lose in a very closely contested District League basketball match. Grange moved into a 10 point lead in the first quarter but an excellent second quarter with D Mahmud and M Wong scoring consistently saw the deficit brought back to 4 points. A really strong final quarter by Grange saw them run out winners but the Meads team can be really pleased with the improved quality of the offence.
Year 8 Boys v Immanuel (District League) HOME Mr Harris
Date : Tuesday 31st January 2023
Result : Won 22 – 5
Scorers : J. Cunningham 4, H. Hayward 6, N. Konopka 2, E. Henry 4, H. Mcmanus 4, H. Wills 2
Squad : J. Cunningham, H. Hayward, N. Konopka, F. Mordecai, K. Chester-Canavan, J. Parkes, L. Avci, H. McManus, H. Wills, E. Henry, G. Amoako-Wiredu, K. Gibson.
Commended performances : F. Mordecai, H. Hayward
Comment: Tuesday evening saw the visit of Immanuel School to BMS for a first basketball game in a few years. We came into this having had a break recently from the basketball fixtures and with a few changes into the team and new faces. F. Mordecai played his first basketball game for the school today and performed really well throughout, ensuring he collected every rebound that game off the board defensively. We made a slow start to the game, scoring only one basket late on in the first quarter, however in the second quarter we picked it up and really took hold of the game, putting up a number of points scoring layups and some jump shots. We were solid defensively too, E. Henry put in another strong performance on the board up and down the court. We had many more great performances today from all especially defensively as we limited Immanuel to very few shots throughout the game. As our confidence grew so did our shooting and layups, where we confidently drove to the basket on a number of occasions scoring plenty of layups from H. Hayward, J. Cunningham, H. McManus, K. Gibson and we worked extremely well on the fast break. Overall, a good performance today and some improvements are still to be made but we are working really well as a team and long may it continue. Well done to all involved, it was a good overall performance.
NETBALL
Year 7 Girls v St Joan of Arc (District League) Away Mrs Cooper
Date : Monday 30th January 2023
Result : Won 11-5
Squad : J.Isles, M.Huryta, S.Verrey, A.Permeti, L.Mullane, E.Yeboah, Y.Khan
Commended performances : M.Huryta – fantastic movement and shooting.
Comment: Finally the year 7 team got the result they deserved, some fantastic play in all areas of the court led to an impressive victory and one that has been coming. Recent weeks have seen the girls really improve their performances and against SJA everything clicked! A slow start saw the BMS team trailing 5-3 at halftime but a dominant second half saw them freely scoring and restricting their opposition. An impressive performance and they should all be very proud of themselves.
Year 8 Girls v St Joan of Arc (District League) Away Mrs Cooper
Date : Monday 30th January 2023
Result : Lost
Squad : M.Rumney, E.Mullings, A.Belghiru, A.Gibson, V.Melero, M.Perkins-Faulkner, N.Edirisuriya
Commended performances : A.Gibson for fantastic defending
Comment: A tough game for a depleted year 8 team, the girls who played were fantastic, supportive of each other and tried really hard to gel in new positions and with new players. Although defeated, the girls did not give up and actually managed to draw the final quarter which was a great achievement. Well played to all of the girls, especially those who stepped up at the last minute to represent the school in their first netball matches.
